Instant URL Creating Duplicate Content

Hi,

My hosting provider has an instant URL pointing to my primary site and I have my own domain also. Eg. www.mysite.com and "s1***9.instanturl.net". Google is indexing both the URLs and showing both sites content in the search result.

I have blocked the sitelink of instantURL website in my primary site google webmaster account. Will this effect the sitelink of my primary site. How do I get the duplicate content issue getting created because of instanturl.
Please do the needful.

  • Vignesh,

Have you canonicalized the right URL? If not, you should do that and it will probably fix the issue. As for the other URL already being indexed, as long as the right one is indexed you shouldn’t have to worry about it. The main problem with duplicate content is that pages you want indexed don’t get there because they are seen as duplicates.

    Best,

    • Hello Shawn,

Thank you. I have canonicalized the URL. But will this help me? As the instantURL is a different domain pointing to my original site. The instantURL was set by the hosting provider during development period and it has been removed. Since google had indexed the pages by then some of the results in the search page are from the instantURL. How do I get the instatntURL link appearing in the search pages. If I click on that it shows page not found error.
