Sandboxed?

Hello All,

I hope you will all indulge me here.

At times I here people talk about "Being Sandboxed by Google"

I assume this means that you are put on probation in a sense for what me seem like questionable behaviour.

My real question here is How do you know you have been Sandboxed?

    It tends to be where you don't even rank for your brand/URL.

    So if you searched for yourdomain.com (with the www's) and you don't appear - that is a very good indication.

    That is of course if your site is indexed (Use site:htp:/ with (www's) dot yourdomain dot com) in Google to check.

    PS - sorry I had to be creative with the links as I havent got enough posts yet!

  • In fact, the sandbox effect is something you have to assume - there is no information on whether the effect exists at all.

    However, this term is often used to refer to a dramatic plunge in a site's performance in serps. New sites are supposed to experience something of this sort after a short-lived "love-affair" with google, but the same effect allegedly concerns established sites engaging in questionable activities.

    • Don't think of the sandbox as a single on/off switch but a huge bank of 1000's of on/off switches, each representing a single Google search engine algorithm. The more "on" switches your site has the better it will rank.

  • one thing to remember if your building links on a constant basis then even if your sandboxes.. keep building them.. for one of my sites i was building links, got sand boxes and kept building them... I re-appeared in the index on page 1 after about a month
  • When you know you have been sandboxed is when Google starts de- indexing your page, than the other way around. It usually only occurs to webmasters who are in ilegal activity in terms of ranking and sites that has little to no activity at all.
