I subscribe to Angela's link packets and I find it great value for money. I'm sure these links contribute something to SEO success and for the low cost involved they are almost a giveaway. At the same time, I have to wonder how well the search engines are able to differentiate and value different types of links and link context. For example, I doubt that a link in a user profile, though useful, could have the value of a "content" link or a link in some more meaningful context.

Aren't the search engines smart enought to recognize a self-generated link such as in a user profile and to value it less than a link based on content or other context generated by others?
In other words, of how much value are these dozens of links quickly left in user profiles and similar places and then just as quickly abandoned?
