On-Page SEO 2013 Guide?

Does anyone have a link or a guide to the best on page SEO that is up to date for today?

    Here's what I would do, ranked in order of importance:

    #1 - make sure your title includes your goal keyword
    example: "Choosing the Right Pest Control Provider Online"

    #2 - make sure your goal keyword is included in a <h2> tag
    example: "Choosing the Right Pest Control Provider Online" (page/article title can be the same)

    #3 - have at least 500 words of unique, related-to-the-keyword content

    #4 - use a few related keywords within said content
    example: best pest control service, pest control services, etc

    Beyond those four, you can do things like adding a YouTube video, an image with an ALT tag... etc... but I personally think nailing the basics as naturally as possible is the biggest leverage point. And that would actually be my biggest piece of advice... I don't usually go too crazy with on-page - if you do, you border between an "SEOed" site vs. a "naturally SEOed" site; know what I mean?

    From there, the right kind of link building will move the rankings.

      Can you give me an idea on the right kind of link building?

      I have my posts up and they are ranking from position 7-18 on Google at the moment with no links.

      The amount of text on a page has nothing to do with SEO, besides large volumes of text slowing down a web page loading time.

      The amount of text on a page is whatever makes sense for traffic, that's what's needed. If you have an extremely long article, break it up into easier to read pages & use internal links to connect all the pages.

      Here's an example of how to break up a large amount of content: How Hurricanes Work

      That link above is 10 internal pages all laser focused on one subject (hurricanes).

      Notice how they dump all their hurricane reference links on page #10 of the article series (link sculpting).
  • Sure Andrew - right on, sounds like you're kicking some butt; good stuff!

    I'm very partial to aged, higher PR links (PR3-5) - they aren't cheap, but they definitely move the rankings - if I were you, I'd pick up a few and wait 3-4 weeks to judge results... give Google time to update.

    How do you acquire said high PR links? Well, that's up to you... (IE, buy them, buy aged domains, buy from providers... use web 2.0s, do some light blog commenting, do guest posting)

    • He's not looking for that. He wants to know ON-PAGE. I don't think Facebook or Pinterest OR Twitter has anything to do when it comes to working ON-PAGE.
