Dont Ignore Yahoo/bing

I have never really bothered with yahoo and bing, and i think i have made a mistake. I was looking through some analytics i never check anymore (not my site but i used to know the owner of this site.

Anyway i checked his site out in google analytics and saw this



most of his traffic comes from bing or yahoo? thats pretty crazy. Who else has had good traffic from thse two?

    I'm curious, can you divulge any specific strategies or techniques that this site might be using?

    On most of my sites/client sites, I've seen Yahoo/Bing correlate with Google rankings after a while - Google seems to update quickest, the rest just seem to follow suit...

      Honestly have no idea. I was helping someone out with it a few month ago and have forgotten to take me off the analytic s.

      If you have any tools that can help with it, feel free to send me an email @ removed and il send you the domain name. Id like to figure out what is going on here, and then start doing it myself

    Hmm - after taking a look at the domain, there really isn't any obvious signs as to why it would be doing so well in Yahoo and Bing - the link profile consists mostly of older article directory links and some forum profiles... nothing too magical or unique at all, really.

    Beyond that Luke, you could look at the exact keywords he is targeting and receiving traffic from within Yahoo and Bing - maybe that will give you a better idea.

    Bing is not always as sensitive to a crappy backlink profile. Google is much better at detecting junk. Most likely it is a case of the site ranking well in Bing because of spammy links. Google, on the other hand, has recognized that the link profile is junk, so the site is not ranking well in Google.

    I noticed one of my competitions EMDs that sucks in Google SERPs ranks pretty good in Bing. Like Mike said, I don't think Bing's algo is half as sophisticated as the Google algo., especially when it comes to backlinks.

    That's not a flame on Bing, considering spamming links could be used to rank another site on Bing.

    i wonder why the sudden spike in traffic though? he recently added one article but im sure it couldnt have such a drastic effect

      You should be able to tell whether that is the case. It's all in Analytics

    I am promoting my products by doing PPC, because I this is where I am good at. Apart from Adwords, Bing is also a great place for PPC. I always recommend my students to use them both! Although the traffic in Bing is much lower than Google, the conversion rate is higher and the CPC is lower. It's a great place for making money!

    Good Stats. I also say the same thing. Can't just ignore both Yahoo and Bing. They both can bring good traffic and good success!

    I have a site that is on the first page of bing but on the 10th page of google. So I guess it just has to do with the quality of backlinks as to why a site would be ranking better in bing.

    I find if you want to rank well in Yahoo write the article exactly like you would for a college professor (First start with an H1 heading, then introduction, then the first H3 heading, then body paragraphs, add more H3 headings for major paragraph transitions and then conclusion). Make sure the article stays on title topic. Eliminate wordiness. Yahoo is the easiest search engine to rank for if you don’t mind writing quality.

    Bing is a little confusing, they use to scrape Googles top popular search results. I think they still do. Whats interesting is I checked one of my pages in Bing and it wasn’t there. I then took the Bing challenge and Google had that page in search results so I picked Googles side. For all 5 searches I used a very close variation of the same title and picked Google each time. The next day when I searched in Bing that page was number one.

    Now in these day to get ranking on first page of Google with stability is not easy task. so we can expect traffic from yahoo bing, these are also popular search engines.
