Hi,

When people talk about an over optimisation penalty, is it normally in relation to the anchor text for your inbound links or can you get penalised for the on site optimisation, ie the keyword density being too high?

Thanks,
Dan

    Yo Mr. Dan the Man,

It's almost always an inbound link penalty, where the links have been optimized too tightly around the "money" keyword - IE, "online degrees", instead of diversifying more with related, partial match and generics.

These days, I like Becker's suggestion on using 3 different sets of keywords for a project - here's a slightly altered example:

    money keyword: "online degrees"

    related near LSI keywords

    top online degree programs
    fastest online degrees
    etc

niche related but no exact match

    healthcare training online
    pharmacy assistant certification program
    etc

    way general/brand

    URL.com
    Brand Name
    etc
