Traffic from non-english countries

I just had a thought that people in France/Japan/China can't speak/read proper english. How can we translate our wordpress website/blog so that when seen in search results, the title/link/meta description appears in the language of the person. Can we make our website multi lingual and search engines serve the version of our website in that language.
I have seen some websites providing some kind of google translate drop down where user can select the country and then the page shall be translated. But is there some way we can make our pages stand out and be shown as translated in search results itself.
I understand there would be need for providing translated content of our website for each country which can be done manually.
