Pointing a domain at my blog

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking for about a month and decided it's time to join in

I currently have a blog on Blogger (blogspot) that's 9 months old. I want to register a domain and point it at my blog (eventually when I'm not as broke of a college student I want to host it elsewhere).
  • Would this change all my links to domainname.net/mainpage, domainname.net/12345/post-1 etc? Or would some of them still have "blogspot" in them
  • When I do change web hosting how would that affect my blog? Would it mess up SEO or change the links any? My understanding is that since links now tend to have the keywords in them changing the link appearance could impact SEO.

I appreciate any and all feedback as I am a total noob at this

Thanks!

    Hi there,

Yup; all URLs will change when everything is moved to your new domain... in my opinion, your best bet is to move everything ASAP so you can start building authority/PR/age on your own domain.

$10 for domain, $30 for a year of budget hosting and you're good to go - it's cheaper than you'd think

    Good luck!

Thanks! I plan on moving to a custom domain ASAP I probably will just wait on the hosting (I actually thought long and hard to justify the $10-12 for the domain name--I'm that kind of broke). Moving from blogspot hosting to a new host later on will be a PITA but from the searching I've done online it looks like as long as the domain name stays the same changing to a good web host shouldn't hurt SEO or traffic. I hope.
