Ranking high in Google

Hi there, I've asked for a bit of help on this forum and you all have helped me a ton, so I really do appreciate that! I'm going to ask a question that I'm sure has been asked numerous times - so excuse that fact!

I'm trying to figure out how to rank high on Google, if anyone could offer some help and tips with that. I checked this guy out: "Award Winning Internet Marketing Blog - Matthew Woodward" and did a ton of his SEO help and stuff. To further rank higher on Google (for a medium competition keyword) will this take months of work? What work do I have to exactly put into it when my website is SEO optimized? Do I need to continue to put out articles with these keywords? Thanks again in advance!

  • Do you want to rank high until the next Google update hits, or as long as your sites are running?

I hope you chose the latter, because it sucks to see the site you've worked so hard on to get on the first page of Google, only to get slapped and end up on page 100 something.

So how do you rank high in Google and keep your rankings? Make an authority site.

Don't try to game the system. Treat your website like a real business (it is). Pump out lots of quality content. Not spun PLR garbage that is illegible; I'm talking unique quality stuff written by you or someone you hire. Lots of it. The more the merrier; Google likes a lot of content.

Make your site easy to navigate, make it clean, uncluttered, and make it fast. Google loves fast sites. Work on getting your load times as low as possible; your visitors (and Google) will love you for it.

I recommend using tools like Pingdom, Blitz.io and GTmetrix.

Stick to those things, and in a few months you'll have a site with solid rankings in the SERPs. If you have any doubts, visit other authority and "big-brand" sites and copy what they're doing.
  • Thanks for the tips guys, yeah I definitely want to make an authority site. I'm not too aware of what I'm up against, besides the 'medium' rating in google search. You do believe it will take a few months to build an authority online, however? I'm open for as long as it will take as I want to ride this to the end, just wondering however.

    • I think any site will take time to rank, really. Depending on the competition of course.

If you were to go after moderately competitive long-tail keywords and regularly pump out content, you should be able to rank well in a couple of months.

Now if you're going after extremely competitive keywords like "weight loss," you're gonna have a much harder time.
