You promote most sites in the same way - links. Is ecommerce different in some way? Not that I can think of. If you are going to start an ecommerce site presumably you will be selling products that some other site is also selling. So to start with, the recommendation I would give you would be to write unique product descriptions. Don't just copy what the manufacturer or wholesaler give you. Then, you just start building links just like any other site....
