Is there any web-host apart from hostgator, bluehost, and godaddy that is reliable and guarantee up time 99.9% of the time. I did a quick review and found people suggesting siteground and dreamhost. How are they and can they be signed up for long term?

Liquid Web, they are pricey but you get what you pay for. They are rock solid, blow away the reliability of Hostgator and Bluehost.

Totally agree. I use them (actually one of their hosting companies, Storm on Demand) to host all my stuff. Fast as hell and insanely reliable.

Web hosting is like most things in life: you get what you pay for.

I would suggest Big Scoots. They are trully great and offer user-friendly approach to the customers whenever you have a server-side problem. We've switched to them after bad experience with webhostingpad.

It depends - what type of sites are you looking to host? There's no "best" web host - each one is different..

MediaTemple and WPEngine have a very good reputation in the web hosting industry. MediaTemple also provides free transfer from your current web host if you decide to switch over to them.

Other than that, their prices starts from approx $20-30. If you have a huge website getting min.300 page views, a switch over to them is highly advisable because the increase in your website's loading speed will already cover the expense of your hosting.

As far as "Hostgator alternatives" are concerned, I'd use Site5, Namecheap or Arvixe
If you no longer want "unlimited" host, look at Stablehost or MDDHosting.

I used Siteground and they were one of the best performing hosts I've used. Just be aware that you might not get a discount rate when you renew beyond the initial period. There have also been some billing complaints in the past- don't know if this is still an issue. I think they were charging people for a year of service and not allowing them to cancel.

I guess it's hard to argue against someone's personal experience. I mean, who can tell them any different if they've always had decent performance from a host?

But anyone who does a quick search on Hostgator (on this forum, not on google) will see the pages and pages and pages of threads that had to be closed and shut down because of so many people complaining about HG.

And those aren't newbies either. If you read those threads some veteran marketers had to move their sites away from HG (liquid web is a solid option for high traffic sites, just saying). So that has to tell you it's not just an isolated thing, nor a bandwagon approach to talking smack about HG.

Now to the positive side. The light at the other end of the tunnel. I can't list all of the EIG hosts here because there are enough threads about them (I believe Wikipedia has a good list of the current acquisitions) but here are some hosts I know from personal experience are pretty solid:

        Mddhost
Stable host (now with a warrior web host sales thread )
        Hawkhost
Veerotech (my personal fav...but anyway lol)
        Arvixe
        Site5
Mediatemple (I say better for larger traffic sites)
        Liquidweb (ditto for high traffic)

The top 6 hosts mentioned will work very well for 90% of marketers. If you're getting serious traffic then either mediatemple or liquid are both solid options.

I am going to scream if someone mentions HG or another EIG host. With so many horror stories I mean...just why? :p:rolleyes:

Hostgator was good while I was using there shared hosting but I left them because of the Inodes limit (max files we can host) actually even if they says it's unlimited hosting still they have a files limit (100,000 - 250,000 still this will be very good for beginners).

I decided to shift and try a VPS first I tried hosting24 and had very bad experience with them due to hours of down time (this started to happen after first month), when I contacted them they told me it's a problem with my websites mysqul queries but actually I didn't have such problem even with Hostgator shared hosting before. So I decided to find a better and reliable VPS provider after searching hours online and after went through reading dozens of online forums, comments and reviews I found KnownHost VPS, now I'm using their service for almost 4 months, so far I have no such issues to report, their support staff is very knowledgeable and great when it comes to support! and that's my experience.

I screwed up a database once & HG had me up & running in just a few min, my own fault & they did all the work to make it right (awesome customer support).

No, you should use a monitor that monitors in 1,5,10 & 15 minute intervals.

It's been like this for years, but, half of the people don't monitor their sites for anything other than 15 minutes & higher.

You do know that is HostGators user forums right? Their own customers are complaining on their own forums and continuously being fed bs. Hardware failures etc etc didn't start popping up until EIG took over. EVERY SINGLE company they've acquired has problems shortly after.

Your sites very well may have not been migrated out of SoftLayer yet, but they will. Give it time.

/sigh... What's being said here is that their own user support forum (where their users can interact with others regarding issues that may not need direct support attention) are complaining about tons of problems, botched migrations etc. Upgrade? Heh, yea. Blatant lie about a migration to Provo Utah, not exactly any upgrade.

No, it's that some customers don't see beyond the BS and fluffy marketing.

              1. Hostgator is an EIG company. There is no HG anymore, and hasn't been since summer 2012.
              2. Since moving to Utah, Hostgator uses the "Bluehost method" and sites are MUCH slower at loading now.
              3. You do realize the whole datacenter was down for almost a full day a week ago, right?

For being a forum supposedly full of "affiliate marketers", most seem to be duped by fake "top 10" hosts. Affiliate lists, not lists of a good hosts. That's why it's almost entirely EIG hosts, and why the fake lists are almost all the same. Heck, half the people with those fake lists don't even use the hosts they suggest!

              Stop drinking the kool-aid.

Furthermore, monitor your sites every 3-5 minutes.

HG support is pretty good like yukon already said. When you have a problem just hit them up in the chat and they will try their very best to help. My site has like 99,99% uptime. Decent hosting price, so you cant go wrong with Hostgator.

ASO was sold to EIG along with Hostgator in June 2012. Brent Oxley owned both companies, and sold them for $225 million. When HG was migrated, $hit hit the fan. ASO hasn't been migrated yet, so it's likely, given the history of EIG (as early as 2003).

There's plenty of non-EIG hosts out there, so I'd not gamble on it.

That's what you're doing here: gambling fate!

Then an "UPGRADE" can be expected at ASO too. EIG pays so handsomely that no one can reject their offer. HG was deserving to be the best shared host in market but its owner handed it over for the big money he got from EIG. Same can be expected with other brands too. Nothing is stable. BTW I read about EIG at your links. It was interesting to know about
