Once you have added a few backlinks to a new site and social bookmarked it, how long will it be before I can expect it to make a difference in the organic search results?

Depending on the backlink quality, and how often the site is crawled that you placed the backlink is really what makes all the difference.

That is why adding your link to an rss directory will get you listed in under 24 hours.

Make sure your site is SEO'ed for your keywords and you should see results very quickly.

      Oh
so the secret is to SEO the site first?
That would take some time though wouldn't it?
      I'm a newbie so don't know much

Do both at the same time I would recommend at the very least getting the basics done for your on page stuff, and then continue with that whilst building links.

That way, the links coming in will be to a relevant page.

I agree with Candace. Google crawls popular authority sites very often. Your backlinking strategy could produce results for you in a matter of hours.

If, however, your links were posted on poor sites (low PR, not much traffic, Google slapped sites), you may have wasted your time.

      Thank you for the info.

I have optimised the site as much as i can (i think) and it is listed in google for my keywords but currently ranks only on page 23. So i'm looking to see how soon backlinks take effect.

I have submitted the sitemap to all the major search engines. Used stumble upon, digg, propeller, twitter, facebook, slashdot, warrior forum and a few other lesser known PR6 sites, so hopefully i will see results shortly.

      Paul.

I was able to get my blog relisted after completely changing the permalinks to a more seo friendly permalink. All I did was go through and edit the all in one seo section to about 20-30 post remodifing the keyword sets titles and description.

With in a few hours I had found that my new links where showing up in googles search. Also after I did this massive post edit I then went out to a few ping sites like pingoat pingomatic and ping my blog submitting only the main blogs index and using the title to my blog.

I had not even got to the social bookmarking part and was already getting most of my indexed pages back. They also did not remove the links to those bad links which kinda hurt ranking abit but to get relisted again in a few hours Ill take it.

Paul it's not something that you do once and forget about. You need to be building links consistently to get and maintain high rankings. So while you are waiting to see your results keep on getting links. Yes it can take time but it's well worth the effort.

Absolutely You have to build your links up every single day. My tactic to this is broken down on days.

monday for instance I will hit social bookmarking sites and a few forums.

tuesday I will write a couple of articles and blast those articles to a few book marking sites.

wensday I will update my blog with a new post and blast to social bookmarking sites again with the new page.

thursday i will write a few articles bookmark them again and hit a few forums.

friday I will update my blog again.

      sat is forums and articles

sunday is articles articles articles articles.

So in a given week I will get around 30-40 back links just following this plan. Once I get over 1000 backlinks I will beable to start expanding on this a little further. This is just my stategy it may or may not work for others.

Do you have a list of the sites you submit articles to and forums you post to without having to pay for the privilidge with good PR that are accepted?

        Thanks

Interesting site and congrats on the 10K a month!

Just wondering how does your website make money...where does the majority of the 10k come from?

I submitted one of my ezinearticles articles and a blogspot post to all of these last night.

      Delicious
      Faves.com
      Spurl.net
      Diigo.com
      A1 Webmarks
      Reddit.com
      Fark.com
      Mister-wong.com
      Folkd.com
      Jumptags.com
      Mixx.com

I did not expect to see my Google ranking jump through the roof but I at least expected evidence of some back links.

Some sort of tangible proof of my efforts. A day later both SEO Quake and the "link:" command in Google says I have 0 (As in ZERO) back links from any of those sites.

Come on! This can't be that hard! Is there some mysterious step I'm not aware of? Perhaps tapping my red slippers together and turning around three times? LOL!

    Hey Paul,

From my experience social bookmarking will
get you listed in a couple of hours. Just make sure
to social bookmark on the real important sites.

Oh guys, It is cool to see some huge list of social bookmarks.
As far as my experience, Social bookmakrs will be in action within very few hours. However, other kind of blog comments or forums posts will work once those are cached.

    Paul,

I think you'll find, unless its a non-competitive niche, that just a few backlinks ... might not have that much impact unless they are some very solid PR sites backlinking to you.

Social Bookmark backlinks seem great to get your content INDEXED quickly, but as to their power on increasing your SERP - which is what I think you actually asked about ... Im not to sure of social "bookmarks" impact.

Full html anchor text LINKS on your keywords are whats going to drive up your serp status.

Its an ongoing and continual process that I dont see as "ending" Partially because some links will fall off as sites switch to NoFollow or they just get deleted ... but mainly because ... your competition never sleeps. They are going to build and build and build to overtake you.

Thats is why grabbing a niche by the throat and building sooo many links as rapidly as you can [without freaking out google] is such a powerful strategy. You can jump way out ahead ... and keep the lead. If you've built up too insurmountable a backlink lead, some competitors may avoid your niche altogether and go find some easier, low hanging fruit elsewhere.

Compeititve niches call for a very aggressive and compeititve backlinking strategy. Obviosuly backlinks are a cornerstone of your over all SEO plan.

    HTH,

    Steve

      Hi Steve,

I am using some of the sites recommended in Angela Edwards WSO and I am adding somewhere between 5 and 15 links a day.

Thanks for your advice. Obviously i am aware that these things take time and that this is an ongoing process that forms an overall part of the entire business. My question was mainly directed at whether a backlink becomes effective immediately or whether it takes weeks/months.

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice.

      Regards,

      Paul.

I'm paying for Angela's and Paul's backling service to get 80 high PR backlinks to my site that's in my sig. It's been 10 days and I haven't seen any results, yet. I checked in google by Link:wpreviewstore.com and I don't see any new links.

Does anyone know how long before I should expect to see any results?

    Thanks

I would use Yahoo Site Explorer instead. It is not perfect but it tends to display more backlinks than Google does.

My new site has started to show some backlinks now and i've jumped 7 pages in Google for my main keyword, so they seem to be having some effect. But i recognize that this is a long term thing and the competition is always moving as well.

      Regards,

      Paul.

Yahoo site explorer provides details on links far faster than google ...

One of the things I like about the sites I use is that they are typically using RSS feeds - so you can ping the url and the rss feed of the page your links are on - speeds up the process. Gets the bots to rock. Some are 48 hrs, are 30 days ... Not sure that helps your serp - but its sure lets your rest easier knowing your links are HAPENNING ... whenyou can see them!

The time it takes for the SEs to pick up backlinks depends on how frequently the "host" page is crawled, so there is no rigid temporal framework for that. At the same time, a link being picked up is one thing, and what is a totally different business is how it affects your rankings, and, by this virtue, your organic search results. Therefore the only valid answer you can get is keep on working, increasing the effort you put in...

Just because Google crawls something doesn't mean it will have effect on your rankings immediately, or at all.

Google ranks new fresh content higher by default, not because you bookmarked it. You can often hit the first page of Google with a fresh new page but you will quickly notice that you totally disappear quickly again. Your freshness bonus has expired and now your page authority is the only thing that counts anymore. And it takes a long time to work your way up to the first page again, unless you try to rank for an obscure keyword that nobody else cares about.

Your bookmarking links are pretty much worthless for ranking authority. They can help to get your new page found quicker but if you have a blog or active web site then Google comes along every day anyway. Most bookmarking services are nofollow, so they count nothing for ranking too.

It's been taking a while for me, my site is 2 weeks old and have about 40+ backlinks on Yahoo Explorer, ~22 backlinks with Live & MSN and hit page 1 with them, and absolutely none on Google. I'm indexed on Google, but haven't gotten a single organic search through google. Hopefully in time it will show up.

If it is quality backlinks then I am sure search engines will crawl it fast. It really depends also on the search engines like Google.
