Google released a new feature today

Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: View manual webspam actions in Webmaster Tools

Essentially its supposed to tell you if a manual penalty is affecting your site and give you more precise reasons why. Apparently they also did some videos to explain some of the penalties and what they consider spam. A lot of people crying around here would do well to take a look at them.

Google Releases Six Videos On Typical Manual Spam Actions

So do you feel better now?

If your site gets slapped to oblivion at least you might know why (if you use webmaster tools)

Good info in this video, where they slap individual URLs on a domain.

    • About 7 minutes in, listen to the disavow tool explanation again. Interesting that this has officially become about not trusting links from a domain... "Trusting" them. Not "Counting" or "Considering" them.... But rather "trusting" them.

Sounds like the explanation of going upstream.

  • Interesting. I've got a Unnatural Links - Impact Link penalty on my very first adsense site from blog comments to profile links to all that good stuff you try when learning. I tried to redirect some of those pages to another domain and the penalty followed.
  • Thanks for the info Mike.
  • I had heard a song with that name
  • Thanks Mike....Now I have a little more information on my big $$ site that just got obliterated over the last few updates. My own fault for sloppy, lazy, greedy link building over the last several years (like 2009 to 2011). Definitely says I have a partial manual penalty. Interesting that in the video he says they were only sending this to 10 sites a day or so. See how lucky I am? I am one of the few....either that or that site is just an extreme example of how NOT to do linkbuilding.

    • The good news is the partial penalty should be more fixable.

  • Thanks for the links bud. The new google is all about "natural link building" and social actions. It's funny because I have a loans site ranking consistently on the 1st page I think it's at the 3rd spot right now but every week or two I see another few sites shuffling around the rankings going up to 1st spot and then BOOM! they're gone just like that so they must be using some kind of comment spam link builder or something
  • It seems like they are having some problems with this, so they pulled it back and are working on it to roll out in the next few days.

Here is what Cutt said in an update (Bottom of the post which Mike linked to in his OP):
  • Yes i watched it today. It is really very bad for the rankings of the website.

    • What are you talking about? More's the point, what are you talking about on your website?

""Thinking about opportunities that can well turn your ideas into actions and convert your action oriented approach to desirous consequences, is as natural as desire for a prosperous living"

I'm really at a loss as to what some of the posters here are doing? What's the point of being here? Are you learning nothing? This site really is becoming one huge spamming machine.
  • Thanks for the info Mike
  • They did do well in the payday niche, but a lot of that involved manual action so I suppose in terms of an automated algo, they didn't do all that great.

Matt always over talks his team's ability.

    • Payday loans was about the only thing I noticed over the summer.
