How to get the most out of backlinks, and not get in trouble??

hey

I just bought both angelas and pauls backlink packets and am very excited about getting started but i still have a couple questions on backlinks in general.

I want to do these as good as I can, and avoid doing anything wrong I also dont want to ruin it for other people, like making it so the site admin deletes all profiles doing it.

First off, my site is about 4 months old, i heard somewhere that you have to be careful with new sites, that if you link to certain sites it is bad??
So what should I do to avoid anything spammy, or against rules, or something the search engines just plain dont like?

On the sales page it says you get 30 backlinks, but you can put 2-7 backlinks on each site, so wouldnt they advertise it as 3 x 2-7 which would equal 60-210 backlinks??
So Do they all just count as 1 backlink, even if I put 6 of em in?

If 6 links do infact count as 6 backlinks, should I mix up the keywords and urls they are pointing to. So 6 different webpages of mine with 6 different keywords, or can I do 6 of the same keyword all pointing to the same url?

Is it okay to create several profiles at each site with several sets of backlinks on them?

Thats all I can think of right now, but if you have other tips or suggestions please tell me. Like I said, i dont want to do anything that will get my site or other people putting backlinks on these site in trouble.
Plus, I never like to do anything unless I know exactly what it is I need to do to make it the best it can be!

thanks so much

I appreciate your effort to want to do the right thing. I wish everyone felt that way and was trying to encourage people to think about their back link habits, when I wrote:

I haven't tried creating multiple profiles, maybe others can speak about that. My own feeling is that SPAM is SPAM if it doesn't really belong on the site or provide value. If you join a site and you write a profile/bio that is a legitimate representation of you, then at least you have done no harm. You haven't JUST posted a backlink. But, I try if possible, to provide a bit more, either something in my profile or a blog entry that relates to the theme of the website or forum.

If someone posts a comment on the a blog that says

'Nice post.' Nokia phones discount prices ...

then I say that's SPAM. Because you could write that same comment on a million posts. It does not show any actual engagement with the site. The person probably didn't even read the post. A bio that is not a complete sentence is SPAM in my opinion. Sure there are gray areas... if I join just for the backlink, but write a real profile, is that really any better? Yes I think it is. Better still is providing some value... offering a suggestion on a forum, answering a question by another member...

I wouldn't wait till you have all the answers for adding backlinks or any other activities. You are too likely to never start taking action.

Thanks so much for the reply.
I did in fact fill out the bio sections of all the site, I also put in my interests like movies and books etc. I didn't go answer any questions or post in other topics but I will start doing that.

But most of the sites have nothing to do with my niche so how can I post a message or blog post with content related to my site? Is it okay to post a message relevant to the site and put your unrelated links (should I just limit it to 1 link per profile)below the post?

The reason I wrote long messages in the boxes where i put my links is because i thought they might have some sort of tool that sees the ratio of non-linked text to linked text! I don't know if that is what the askimet tool is, but I'm glad i did it!

Thanks again for the help, I read your guide, very nice and informative.

Only the first found keyword URL combo found o nthe page will likely be recognized ... so putting 6 of the same url/keyword combos on the same {page} might be a waste of time and a red flag to raise the ire of the webmaster.

Id imagine most folks would be optimising for more than one keyword/long tail keyword combo ?

Keyword variance might be a good idea too ...

Blue Widgets can be found here ....

Good rule of thumb might be 3 links to a "domain" per page.

Put links to your money sites - your articles, and to internal pages as well.

If your still writing an indepth post for each and every link - bless you - you have more time than most to burn on linkbuilding. Leaving 1 link per site is a ginormous bummer!!! Unless the site has some serious PR, Im over that model.

well actually I just went and started angelas packet, and the first site i went to, once i logged in and filled out the blog adn submitted it, said "this post looks like spam, it will be reviewed by the site owner"

It also said my ip was logged How bad is it to have your ip logged? Should i be worried?

I put 6 links in this post, I think i will just start putting 1 or 2 to be safe.
Thanks for the tip on keywords, I will start putting different keywords when posting in the same post.

        thanks again

I don't write a unique post for each backlink and no way do I have more time to burn, but many sites follow a pattern of simply having a user profile and bio. But I will cut and paste a bio and maybe change a word here or there, just like it is recommended for article spinning.

But some sites which post questions and answers and have members vote on the quality of answers.... you really are missing an opportunity if you don't spend 5 minutes looking to see if there is a question that you really have a good answer for... again, this can translate into a customer saying, "wow... this guy/gal knows what he/she is talking about, here I'll look at their site."

AshleyAA... I know the website you mean, first in one of the backlink packets. I got the same warning and same IP address notice. I wouldn't worry about it in terms of you personally, but it's what I'm trying to point out to people... website owners have noticed, are getting pissed and WILL take action if the trends just continue.

I understand your point totally - crystal clear. But its from the perspective of ... the sites your getting in your packets and finding via the current methods that are popular - DoFollow blog search engines and lists etc.

There are other killer backlink opportunities where the sites are either too big to care, thrive on most all / any user generated content { UGC} except the most blatant of spam and porn, and are designed to allow 20-30 backlinks in a visit. Without having to be approved by a moderator, without fear of the whole thing being switched to NoFollow.

Trying to spend time generating enough thought to make a "noticeable" post on a sub par PR blog site is IMHO an exercise in futility.

Id be interested in seeing the traffic stats of people visiting yoursites from awesome blog comments vs. having a massive amount of backlinks and your pages being on the first page of google.

Yes that is what i planned to do, write out several different bios, with my links in them and then maybe add some more content once I see what the site was about ie if it was a music site, add a little bit about my musical experience.

Where are these sites? up to 30 and they dont care! Is this what you sell, your goldmine ebook??
I would be very interested to know, i would be very interested in learning more. When it comes to rules and stuff i am bit of a prude, i like to make sure i dont get in trouble or piss people off, so if there are sites out there that dont mind, well, thats right up my alley.

I see what you mean, when you talk about how long it takes to write out well thought out blog or comment posts. I realized this when doing my first packet, i dont have a lot of time either to be doing this.

So i decided to only use the sites that were about me, shout boxes, bio and other "non-interactive" places.

One question though, if i have several already written bios, should i just use 1 or 2 links in it? I keep asking this, but like i said i am kinda "prudish" and need a solid answer before i will start

            Thanks again for your help

I would say, start a blog network that links to each other and to your main blog.

I'm with Ashley and would be interested to learn more...

Ashley, I've also been picking and choosing between the backlink options, to grab the low-hanging fruit, the websites where it was easy to add my links and have them look like they belong and were not SPAM (generally I stopped adding to news sites and most blogs).

4morereferrals I do agree that the main point of adding backlinks is to boost the search engine ranking, without that, I absolutely would not bother. But I do feel its a bit like article marketing, as long as you are throwing something together, a few more minutes spent to produce non-SPAM is worth doing.

For me personally, and maybe this is the ONLY time it will ever happen, my one profile brought me an email and I have a speaking engagement on Thursday from filling in my backlinks profile properly.

Hard to argue with that ...

Im not saying its a bad strategy. Its just a very time consumptive one.

As far as where the sites are Im referring to where you can leave many links - well - that is the secret sauce as they say ... so secret its rught under your NOSE

Is this true? I should only be putting 25 per day?

In angelas packets she tells us that it is a myth, she says (im paraphrasing) "that what if you had a great story and 500 sites linked to you? google wouldnt care because you cant control how many people link to you."

I believe that people are just being paranoid. I think it would be difficult to blow the filter by hand building links. I think it is more designed to catch those using automated programs and building thousands of links over night etc.
