How Important is Page Length Today?

Question as above, I guess.

Does the length of the page really have that much of an impact on SEO these days? I've seen plenty of sites that rank well and have very short sections of copy.

Also, how about page length against other SEO elements? Is page length more or less important than, say, links from other sites? If you get enough links - to your short content - will Google care?

Thanks

The focus should be on providing people with the best user experience and not on each algorithm we think can affect the site. They are still important but our main priority should be on quality.

its very important as your page loading time will be less and that effects in page ranking

I wrote two articles the other day on the exact subject but both were identically popular brands. One article was 250 words which ranked extremely well. The other was about 1200 words and also ranked very well. The short article only has 35 visitors so far, the other has 375 visitors.

It boils down to the mix of content within the page. If the words people use to search for the content aren’t within the page text, chances are they won’t find it. So a longer article will usually do better.

I do find it easier to rank a shorter article better though as its easier stay on topic. Takes me a lot more focus to stay on topic when writing a very long article but it seems to pay off on those longer articles.

Length does not matter for Google. However, content will matter for your visitors. Keep that in mind.

I've generally seen pages which are anything between 1500 - 2000 words do better.

Any tips on training yourself to write longer content? When I write articles I always seem to run out of ideas at the 300-400 word mark.

The amount of text on a page has nothing to do with ranking a web page.

The amount of text on a page that you need depends on what your traffic would expect/want/need.

Example, this dafont web page is very useful for anyone that is searching for fonts, notice the page has vary little text.

It really depends on the type of traffic you want to attract, their search intent, their search query. Ultimately, what you should do with your web page is provide a great answer to a search query. If your prospects are looking for your pricing, a concise table is enough and that will be an answer. If your prospects are looking for the history of cheese and they type in "cheese" and find your page in the In-depth articles section, then they definitely expect to see a long, well-written and detailed article. Think user!

I think there was a post from Neil Patel (quicksprout.com) stating that longer web pages rank better compared to <500 words pages.

Of course page size matters. The reason many websites have short pages is might to have more pageviews. Have you seen wikipedia pages they are long but still ranks higher than all. So, you can consider wikipedia pages as max allowed atleast.
