Domain Name/Page Title

I have an online store. Recently an SEO firm looking at me website told me that they noticed that the home page of my website had the domain name as the page title and that is not good.

Example:

My website is pawsandclawspetsupply.com

My HOME page has the domain name as the page title. They are suggesting naming the HOME page something other than the domain name.

Has anyone heard anything like this before?
#domain #name or page #title
  • Heartlandpet,

There isn’t anything inherently wrong with putting the domain name in the title. It may look a little strange however if it is part of the brand name than that’s fine.

Ideally you want to use the keyword that you are trying to rank the page for in the title tag. If you aren’t trying to rank the page for anything then just the name of what the page is (i.e. contact us or terms of service) would suffice.

Overall, page titles are one small component of on-page SEO and its not like configuring them improperly is going to destroy the page’s chances of ranking well in search. Do keep in mind though that page titles and meta descriptions are usually the content that search engines use to populate results pages so they are a chance for your business to market to people looking for your products and services. You might try just your brand name instead of the domain instead.

    Hope that answers your question.

Also, here is a good post about on-page best practices (which includes configuring title tags)
