My wife Anne and I built our first online store which I think turned out pretty good. My head is spinning over SEO. I've done a lot to the website in the way of optimization. I have just stared trying to create backlinks but everyone seems to have different ideas.

I need help! I need my website reviewed by someone who knows what they are doing.

pawsandclawspetsupply.com is nowhere to be found in the search rankings. We are getting next to no visitors and the few we get do not buy.

So far Google has indexed 149 pages.
So far Bing has indexed 8 pages. ????

I did get one person to quote me for SEO work. The cost was outrageous.

Thanks in advance,

  • Heartlandpet,

SEO can make your head spin, especially if you are a beginner. There are a lot of basic things you can do to start. I would say the first thing you should do (if you plan to do this on your own) is create a list of all the things you need to do to the site.

Here is a pretty good checklist to get you going,

How to Perform the World's Greatest SEO Audit - Moz

I took a look at your site. You should start off by generating a list of keywords that you would like to rank for in search. There are a variety of keyword research methods so you can investigate those yourself. Ideally you want keywords with moderate competition and high search volume.

You will want to optimize each page of your site for one keyword and its variants. Keywords should be in header tags, copy, meta tags and title tags of web pages. They can also be in the URLs of pages as well as the file extensions of any images that appear on the pages.

You will notice in the checklist that there are many other things you can be doing. Some may seem very technical and they are. Note that if you are just beginning, you should just focus on the basic stuff and move on to building links later. Of course if you can get someone to link to your site that’s great too.

Also keep in mind that SEO takes time. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results right away. Another thing you should do if you haven’t already is submit your site to Webmaster tools (Googles free webmaster interface).

    Hope all that helps you,

    Shawn

After seeing the meta content I found out that you were targeting American made pet supplies. Am I right?
I went to ahrefs and saw that you have not done any link building to your site at all. It will not rank soon without links and being an e commerce site, no new content is added in terms of posts.

There is not much description for the items but you have given the right tags which will bring some traffic.

The thin description may be one reason and second reason is you do not have any links.

Did you do any competition analysis? What sites are on the top? How are they optimized, what links do they have, their PR and age.

If I can know the exact keywords that you are trying to rank for then I may be able to help you out.
