Conversion rate for "information seeking" search terms i.e. How to build a something?

Hi, I'm just curious to know whether one should target "information seeking" search terms within their niche. Let's say you sell DIY products, of course you would target keywords such as "DIY equipment" "Power tools" "Hand tools" etc. but should you go after search terms should as:

"How to repair something"
"Best way to fix something"

If your website is an ecommerce site, affiliate site, etc. where you are hoping to make sales, affiliate sales, should you just stick to purchase related searches (Hand tools) or have a blog and target information seeking searches (how to repair..)

Are the conversation rates good or bad for these type of search terms?

Would like some opinions, thanks.

    I don’t think anyone will be able to give you good answers unless they know the specific keyword phrase you are talking about. For example “how to fix lenox central air unit” might convert well whereas “how to fix jeep grand cherokee instrument cluster” might not.

    Also, it depends on where you are using these terms. For instance conversion rates vary when you are ranking web pages in organic search as opposed to PPC for search.

    • There is a lot of different factors at play here, but depending on how you plan to monetize the website is one of them. I think product keywords and such have a higher conversion rate, but you can always sell advertising space to companies for a pretty hefty fee (depending on your traffic.) Hell, even low traffic websites can sell ad space, because it's generally more targeted around a smaller niche.

  • If your target page content includes sections on.
    "How to repair something" and "Best way to fix something", its a great idea.
    Just make sure that those long tail questions have search volume.
  • I have built quite a few information/guide/how-to based websites in the near past.

    They work quite well. Especially when you actually CAN'T DO THIS / FOLLOW THIS GUIDE without buying/using this tool or item or whatever.

    And what's even more better about such websites is that you can get links with eaze. People see that you are actually helping folks around the globe and they don't mind you to use your site in their articles, resources pages and so on. WIN-WIN situation.

    • I have found "How To..." keywords usually convert extremely well.

      Also ".....Techniques" is a high converter for me.
