As you said, it's best to check on the "historical data" of the aged domain you're looking to buy. An aged domain that was heavily devastated by the recent search engines' algorithmic updates isn't worth a penny regardless of its age.

In addition to that, while it's true that aged domains rank pages "faster" than new domains, it's still on a case-to-case basis. An aged domain with spun, boring and copied can be overtaken by a newly-registered domain with high-quality contents.

Here's a 4-year old (talk about age now, haha) video from GoogleWebMasterHelp's YouTube channel. I am not sure if what Matt Cutts said in this video in 2009 is still "in" this 2013.

Question: Does a domain's age affect its ranking? - YouTube
What's the niche of the domain you're looking to buy? [if I may task]

    You're welcome, Alexzeto.

In addition to what I mentioned, another factor that contributes to a good PageRank(PR) is your keyword.

I think so, too, that if you put these anchored keywords into your signature instead of posting them in the body of your post, you should carry on to this forum and stay here for a while.

  • An Aged Domain has many perks to it.

Google is a lot more lenient to Aged Domains.
For example lets get technical, if you link to your domain there is a certain keyword density you need to keep. Google is a lot more lenien here and if you are trying to rank for the term PayDay loans instead of only having allowed 30% exact keyword phrases you can still be off the hook with having 40%.

This is always GREAT to have!
  • Yes! The old domain should be the one with keyword that could give it a natural SEO so that when ranked you can get enough visitors to make money. I hope you are aware that it is not all domains that ranked number one can bring good money.

    Cheers.
  • Yes, domain age do matter, Google loves Old content and domain. If you have quality sit with old domain age then chances of wining SERP is high.
  • Ones misconception concerning domain age

As the benefit of domain age has been hotly debated concerning years, in fact, there's little facts given in order to domain age, particularly following a location is two or perhaps three months existing.

For unique site, domain age are one factor, because usually a new site will never need much information on it, so that of which is factor it is more difficult in order to rank perfectly in search index.

After a few months, site positions are bumping with great content they are finding, hence in in which point age is actually no longer a worthwhile.

Ideal site information along with de right back-links in which information of site is what will help you rank perfectly additionally bring the search visitors

Google split tests Placed to rest some of the false presumptions about the value of aged domains within the search engine position.

    • I have seem many websites with 1 year old or less out rank old domain(8 years or older !),I do think that age matters if you take a brand new domain and compare with one domain with at least 1 year old,but what matters is content and backlinks related with the website, usually takes 2 or 3 months to rank high quality content in my opinion, sometimes even less time.

Thank everybody for your suggestion !
  • It depends on what you are using the domain for. If it is to get indexed in google i recommend a aged one of 3 years. i hope that helps!
  • age matters but it wont get u to #1 if u dont have good links
