Have you tried submitting anything to any of these?
Is there a fee associated to it such as a subscription plan or a one-time fee?

Do these blog directories really send traffic? Has anyone got decent traffic from them?

I do quite well with Blog Catalog, but I have spent years in the forums making friends, which is pretty much a necessity.

Most of them are good to get 1-2 visitors from time to time (if you're lucky), other than that, all you get is a backlink. You can't expect to get good traffic from such places, because thousands of blogs already are submitted out there, so chances are low, unless you are already a big site with decent traffic, than you can go further out there too.

Are any of these blog directories still do follow? And, if so, would it help getting a backlink for SEO?

Thanks, but they were good 1-2 years ago... Nowadays, they are NOT helpful for traffic... Or if you get a few visitors, they won't be targetted, they are just people that take a look in sites there... For me, guest blogging and article marketing are much better SEO strategies to increase your TARGETTED visitors!

I personally think you all might be approaching this the wrong way. I have done very well with BlogCatalog, and would recommend the VIB service, but the key is to Socialize, and make real friends, not to go on there and spam the forum, or jam your product down someone's throat.

You need to write compelling, high quality content that people will come read and share. Not adcopy. A lot of the in your face, buy now, amazing product stuff on here will not fly there it's true, subtlety would be the key.

BC is nofollow, but i have so many friends on there offering me guest posts, guest posting for me, and commenting on my blog, it has turned into automated high quality content creation....that should be the goal...think longer term.

Many of them have also purchased from me and have referred me to others.

They are all useful but you will gain only single links from getting listed if you stop promoting your weblog. The real job after setting up a brand-new blog is actually to keep adding fresh contents to that, making use of RSS pinging solutions to spread the word about the newly added materials and thus, gaining links and generating traffic shares. URL submission may be considered an outdated strategy these days because some remote links will not change anything dramatic in the long term.

These are all blog directories? How about the new Google update? From the information i have found online google is penalizing blogs listed in directories because they are considered link farms.

Yeah I think it's best to use guest posting and social media to get things going on your blog. If the blog is decent and people want to share the content then things will pick up as long as you keep posting good content. If the content needs sorting out, it's better to do that first before you look at trying to get people to read it.
