If you have software like market samurai and your client lives in a different city you can specify which city that google should show results for and based on that analyze if your clients site moved at all.

I think companies doing this are not going to last long unless they are accidentally making their clients money as well. I have seen people present based on the rankings they’ve achieved for a client and that can be appealing for the short term but remember that is not the end goal. A site can rank on the first page and still not make the company money.

SEO companies should approach this from the standpoint of how many leads or how many assisted conversions they were able to bring the company. That is the only way to determine a return on investment. I suppose if the agreement from the get go is to pay for rankings they can do that but it doesn’t sound like a logical business model to me.

You work out how much additional traffic they have gained, and times it by the CPC and say look how much free traffic i got you it would have cost this much! It usually gets them frothing at the gash. If they are not making any more money, but you are improving there traffic, you then sell them a conversion consultancy as well

For me if i have a seo client i have rank tracker software every month i send once report to customer for eg. with his past month and this month ranking and _ or + changes in ranks.
