Facebooks Ads - Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. (totally confused)

Hello Everyone!

For all you FB Ad users out there I would really appreciate your input. Right now, I am so confused. So please bear with me as I explain. I've been trying different types of FB ads with different results. The ads I tried are to promote an event and those ads appeared on the right hand side. I only got 17 clicks out of 122,000 people and like a 0.0125% CTR. I then decided to link to an external event page and run a boosted post from my fan page to run into the News Feed. That did very well. 9% CTR, close to 600 plays on the video and a conversion of about 5%.

The boosted post only ran one day and a half (no longer 3 days). So I wanted to continue the boosted post today and something odd happened. The price went up. I ran that ad for $30, now $30.00 is no longer an option. $20, $45 and on up. I thought you get rewarded if you have a successful campaign, not penalized. The other odd thing is, for my other post that I wanted to promote, the option to "Target Fans and Friends of Fans" says it will reach out to about 80 people. I think 150 people at the most. I looked to make sure I wasn't reading that wrong, but could find no other zeros. I can reach up to 150 people on my own.

I went to the Power Editor and set up my promoted pages there and I was approved. I selected CPC (bidded one cent over the maximum amount) and for quite some time, nothing happened, no impressions at all. Then I went in and re-selected CPM and let FB handle the optimizing and it was approved almost immediately and I started getting impressions. And of course, my money was gone within one hour. My CTR was about 4%. I don't know if Facebook is just having some glitches or what. I hate not being able to call people, and Google and Youtube are looking better and better right about now, lol.

Does anyway have any experience with any of this? Can someone tell me if I am doing anything wrong?
