Guest posting always work and always will work with any current or future Google algorithm update. All you have to make sure is to write quality content and submit them in best places as possible. To me this is an evergreen link building method if done in a correct way.

I'm doing it, whenever I can.

I find it very helpful. Especially if you get introduced as the "guest blogger" with a nice description and can go back after your post and interact with people, answer their questions, and so on. It can be a great targeted audience for direct (non-SEO) traffic.

It's a particularly good form of article marketing.

I think so, yes. They tend to be context-relevant backlinks of exactly the kind Google likes.

But "link-building" is very much an afterthought, compared with the main benefits, of course.

All link-building can get you is some eventual SEO traffic, but the guest blogging itself can get you direct traffic comprising pre-targeted, qualified visitors. It doesn't get much better than that, especially if you can find a high-traffic blog and build a real relationship with its publisher/webmaster.

These threads may help/interest you, I think.

It should be, yes. As long as it's a real blog, and not something that's part of a "network" that exists only for SEO purposes, in an attempt to manipulate Google's algorithms - that could be a red rag to a bull!

PR is meaningless, it all has to do with the quality of links to your website. I see PR 1 websites out rank PR 3s and 4s all the time. Again, PR is meaningless. Take note of that before you buy your next PR 6 website with no quality links built to it to turbo charge your website.

Well, you can use blog with any PR, you have to concentrate on relevant blog posting mainly.

If Alexa rank is good then you get traffics too, and it would help in SEO as well.

How important is my anchor text? Should I aim for using my name or should I go for keywords etc?

What about the backlink itself? Many high profile blogs will not allow a backlink in the body but only in the author's bio at the end.
I once read an article that those backlinks carry almost no value anymore.
When you guestpost, where do you place the backlinks?

    Thanks!

As long as you get the backlink, guest posting is really valuable. If you have to choose between guest posting to other websites and have people guest post to your site, you have to choose to guest post somewhere else. It's always better to have your name known to many places. When you guest post, don't forget to thank the person, promote it on Twitter and share it on Facebook, and link to the post from your blog.
