Does competition domain age matter?

In terms of choosing 'long tail keyword' is it best to stay away from competition like cnet, bestbuy, walmart, target etc? they are all created like 15 years ago+

and have domain authority of like 90+

however they do not have any page rank, and hardly any page links

what do you think?

I don't think the domain age plays a big role, since those sites are authority sites, and major brick and mortar businesses. Google does manually review sites, so I'm sure they know these sites receive a ton of buying traffic, and adjust their authority manually.

I am just guessing of course, but I could be right.

  • Ever since the furry updates I find that domain authority as a whole plays a major role in rankings. And usually the websites with a lot of domain authority have some decent age on them. So that's why even if their individual page may not have any PR or authority the domain as a whole does and why they'll usually rank well. So it's a tough battle if you see a lot of other bigger brands with good domain authority ranking for the keyword you're targeting.
