SEO: Worth it?

I was just wondering what point of site popularity is SEO really worth it? Why should I pay for SEO if my site isn't going to pay for it? But perhaps SEO would get the site more visits so maybe it is worth it. I figured I would ask a professional in this topic. So, what do you guys think? Is SEO worth it? Also should I just start with SEO on Google since Google is the biggest Search Engine and that's all I can afford?

-thanks in advance, gaspoweredtoaster

  • SEO is worth it if you attack the right keywords. Assuming you have a website that reviews gas powered toasters, SEO would be worth it if you are able to rank for profitable keywords like "Best Gas Powered Toasters". Basically, profitable keywords that indicate the person is more or less ready to buy the product.

Personally, I don't think you should ever pay for a SEO service. Rather, you should use that money on paid advertising to supplement your short-term income (and to also build a list through a landing page). Once you have your SEO established, you should be raking in plenty of money on auto-pilot.
  • A simple Google search of "what is SEO" would've saved you the time in posting this thread.

Of course its critical for traffic. SEO is your source of ORGANIC traffic to your site. Its the most effective way to get organic traffic to your site.

    • I asked if it was worth it, not what it is. I know what SEO is... thanks for the help though.

  • Results from SEO can be fast or slow .. depends on the competition of your keywords (assuming you also have an SEO optimized site) .

If you keywords are low competition , you can rank you site pretty fast with a proper seo strategy ... a lot of people even rank it in days.

If your dealing with high competition keywords, then maybe doing some PPC campaigns along with SEO would be a good option too. If you have the budget ..

  • Gaspoweredtoaster,

Ultimately doing SEO to a site is mostly a business decision (if the goal is to make money from the site) and whether or not it is worth can only be answered by the return you get from it.

This forum is filled with people who are marketers and perform their own SEO. For them its obviously not worth paying someone else to do it because they can do it themselves (unless they are just too busy). If you have someone do it for you, make sure they show you clearly how its going to make your business money and how what you spend will come back to you and more.

Of course there are many other ways to promote a website/business online so a good SEO will alert you to those channels as well and explain why (or why not) SEO may be the best or a good path in combination with other things to follow.

    Best,

    Shawn

  • I do SEO and i got 8000 customers from SEO work for web hosting niche... But remember those 8000 were all not from SEO but SEO + good service/support make it possible.

But SEO is what given a good start... So I think that SEO worth well...
  • If I were you I'd start with paid traffic, this can ell you determine how much income you can make based on a number of visitors, if your website is good you should be able to get a good amount of income. Long term, SEO is a better option as it will not be limited by your advertisement budget and only limited by the number of searches for your top ranking kws. So to sum it up, ppc would be a good test to see if you can convert a visotor, once u got that figured out invest on SEO since you don't want to pay for advertisement/visitors forever.

  • Of course. IT's much better than PPC. It could be done for FREE and if the work was great done, the results would be amazing!
  • Targeted traffic on a converting site equals to sales/click/$$$.

If your keywords needs to be pushed higher to get you the right amount of traffic you need to make money then you are left with two choice, 1.) Build quality backlinks or 2.) Pack up.

  • SEO is quite good way to increase your web site rank in organic search.
  • SEO is of great importance to your website. It's the best way to generate natural traffic and to expose your product or services to the millions of people,
  • That is like asking "Is a dog worth it?"

If the dog is just going to sit in your kitchen, eat everything, bite you, and then crap on the floor, it is probably not "worth it", but if it is going to run off into the mountains, hunt and bring you food, and then be a good citizen of the household, it is "worth it".

Good dogs are worth it, bad dogs are not.

Good SEO for the right price, which would be relative to the income it produces is defiantly worth it, but bad SEO is not. If you are serious about your online business, you need to study it.

As was stated above, if you don't know SEO, you won't know the difference between good or bad seo, or it's worth. Also with good SEO your SEM efforts and their worth will be greatly improved.

  • you already know about this question if you do not know then please help Google , That make you understand very well dear. waste of time
  • While you are wondering if its worth it or not and at the same time doing PPC campaigns, the only one that can help you understand is yourself. Read more stuffs about SEO and why its a must for a website. Better understanding on SEO should lead you to hire best SEO's to work for your website.

PPC campaigns helps, but its temporary because it solely depends on your budget. Organic traffic however, it can be for long term.
