Rankings gone for just one keyword

How is this possible and why does this happen? My site was ranking high for many keywords, now since 2 days ago rankings are gone for one of the keywords. I was #1 and now nowhere in the first 300. In the same time the same URL ranks fine for other keywords and there has been no change.

Any ideas?

    Msheart,

    Its hard to say without knowing exactly what you have been doing to the site or what others have done. Have you made any recent changes? Have you noticed that others have built additional links to your site that may have harmed it? Were you doing anything you shouldn’t have been doing that may have finally been noticed? I would start there.

    I have not done anything differently. I only build a few links at a time by posting original articles on high PR blogs. I always vary the anchor text and keep everything nice and tidy. Also, the same URL still ranks high for other keywords, so I don't know how it could be penalized. Is it possible that when competition builds spammy links to my site only one keyword disappears from search results?
