Looks like they did lots of link exchanges or perhaps link building via comments etc...

They also appear to have deleted their posts...

Yeah thats true that may be after achieving the PR, they would have sell their blog to some one other who must have deleted all the content.

By the way, "blogs" are websites, and websites don't "have page ranks". Only pages have page ranks. What you're referring to as "the page rank of a blog" is actually "the page rank of a blog's home page".

Page ranks mean less and less, these days. Google has announced their long-term intention of discontinuing publishing them (which some people think will happen quite soon, though I don't, myself: http://www.warriorforum.com/off-topi...ar-2013-a.html ), and meanwhile, we can all see for ourselves, from the ever-increasing regularity with which lower-PR pages outrank higher-PR pages in Google's SERP's that page ranks are an increasingly devalued currency.

If you go to Themeforest & look at the HTML template category, then look at comments on the individual HTML templates, a lot of folks have no idea what HTML is. They'll try & install an HTML template on Wordpress & get a CSS error (stylesheet not found). It's funny reading some of those comments. The HTML sales page almost always point out it's an HTML template.

A lot of people think Wordpress is the only way to build a site/blog.

It is common knowledge. It's sad, if people don't know that. But buying domains
and using WP has made everybody and their brother a webmaster...

It's sad that people do not know what PR is and how it's calculated. has nothing
to with content. But peruse the forum. Many SEO guru's swear PR is calculated
by a number of factors, including the amount of content, subscribers, etc.

to do with PR, and I can rank a blog, no content, #1, if the keyword is right.

The answer to this is very simple. THey have links from high PR sites... ONe for instance, networkedblogs.com, has a toolbar pagerank of 7. Not to hard to imagine why the blog in question has a PR4. Toolbar pagerank is easily manipulated and doesn't mean a whole lot when it comes right down to it.

I'm a bit confused by these statements. I thought page rank was passed through external links and internal links from your own domain. Surely if you link from a homepage or a page that has pagerank and 'add new content' then it will pass some PR on to it.

I will give you an example of what I mean. Here is a link to an internal page to one of my old sites: http://www.yibyab.co.uk/data/1gb-internet-allowance.php. Now this page is PR3 but as far as I'm aware there are not any external backlinks to the page (could be wrong) so it gains the page rank through internal linking.

In this respect I would say you are both wrong or maybe I'm just misinterperating things?

Your internal page could be a blank page (seriously) & still be a PR3.

Content has nothing to do with PR, it's all links creating the PR.

What your seeing is the PR0 page/supporting pages/links are better optimized for that [exact] keyword/phrase.

When you see a high PR page at the bottom of page #1, it's because they're not targeting that [exact] keyword/phrase. If that same high PR page at the bottom of the 1st page of Google SERPs was targeting the [exact] same keyword/phrase, they would smoke that ranked PR0 page.

Assumes that PR0 page is actually a PR0 & not needing to be updated on the toolbar PR that we see (check the internal/external supporting links on the PR0 page). Example, If that PR0 is a new page with a bunch of high PR links pointing at the PR0 page, odds are the toolbar PR just hasn't updated yet.

PageRank is solely based on incoming links and doesn’t have anything to do with the quality of content on the website. Most likely the site has acquired several incoming backlinks from high authority sites which were giving the website PR4.
