Google backlinks question

Hi, I am pretty fresh in SEO and have the following question: My understanding is that backlinks to a page that Google sees are the only ones relevant for Google ranking.
What I mean is if Yahoo and Bing see 100 backlinks to my page and Google only 3, these 3 links will be the only relevant for my webpage Google SERP position ranking.

The same must apply for competition. If I check Google backinks for competitors page in SEOquake this is the only relevant number for me when trying to outrank them in Google. (not the Bing or Baidu number of backlinks).

Am I right?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

  • The backlinks that Google sees do decide your ranking, but how do you know which are the backlinks Google knows about- webmaster tools??

    • Ok, but I can check webmaster tool only for my sites. For competition I check SEOqake which shows info about backlinks to competitors page Google knows about.

Isn't SEOquake a reloable source of this backlink info?

      Thanks again for your help.

  • Not necessarily. The links you are able to check up using Google, Bing or Yahoo are links they show you. There are possibly more links that they do not show up in search results. I am assuming you are using the 'link:' operator.

Try use backlink discovery services like ahrefs, it will show you more. But still, no one service is able to crawl the whole web for backlinks.

Also, backlink is not the only factor in search ranking.
