Optimize a website without enough content

Hi everyone,

I have a website focusing on holiday rentals in 5 different location. But my landing page has only a full page slideshow and a dropdown menu that people can chose the destination to go.

Other than this nothing else on the page. This landing page is very important for me but I don't know how to optimize it in on-site wise.

Do you think only a proper backlink campaign would do bring the success, or should I add some blog posts to the website? I don't want to publish them on the main page though. I don't even want to put a link to the blog page.

PS; The other destination (dropdown) links are subdomains. Here's the structure;

main: superholidayvillas.com
dropdown selections: phuket.superholidayvillas.com, bali.superholidayvillas.com etc.

I want to optimize the main page. But it doesn't have any content but a couple pictures sliding in it.

I would really appreciate any piece of mind here. Thanks.

  • You need some content in there to get google to think it's relevant to your keyword. You don't want to be taken to a site that is completely unrelated just because the backlink profile is good.

    When that is said, I'd try to get quality links from relevant sites. Try contacting people with similar sites. You might have to give up a link yourself, though, or pay for it.

      What you need is an optimized title and h1. That's it.

      The rest of your pages will be the content.

      I like the idea of drop down menus, as they will not muddle things
      up. But you need to make the drop down menu user friendly.

      I would not have the rotating slides. It would be better to have
      a text image or make that text all appear on the landing page, no
      rotating. That's not "content," but just landing page text. Perfect
      to be headed by an h1.

      The majority of text on the landing page of the WF, is the
      usernames...go figure. Have you actually ever visited real websites?
      Cuz a lot don't have shinola on that first page. Ever see kayak.com?


      The site in question has CONTENT....just not any real content on the first page.

    • Google itself has little contents on landing page. Well basically the overall site should have significant contents no necessarily every single page.

    The problem around here is, most people think a page has to include an article in order to rank in organic SERPs (wrong).

    I've actually been going about ranking pages first for main keywords then adding content after I've had proven traffic from the SERPs. I bury the page on my site so regular traffic doesn't find the page while testing SERP traffic volume, rank the page, If the SERP traffic is worthwhile I build out the page & supporting pages (long term SEO).

    When you own the links that rank the page/s it's like flipping a light switch On/Off for ranked pages. If a keyword disappoints, repurpose the links.

    Works for me.
  • Attach a blog to your website and keep posting quality content to it every week. This should help you get good rankings.
  • Backlinks from high PR sites can't be good enough, you also need to put some content on your site to make it look more legit. You can also start a facebook page and link to it.
