My Site is Gone! What happened?!

I gradually worked my way up from nowhere in the search results to #1 page on google in just a few short months...which was quite a feat considering I beaten out sites that have been around for years.

Suddenly, I check the google results and it's gone...not page 1, not page 2, not even up to page 12 (and I didn't want to go any further than that)

This is crazy because I've worked my ass off on this site for hours a day and don't want it to go to waste!

The site is www.bodybuildingmotivation.net. I have attached some screenshots to show you the drastic 1 day difference that changed everything. How on earth can one day make a complete difference in my rank?!

I just don't get it. I went from shooting, sky high rankings to virtually NOTHING. This is actually really discouraging and a bit depressing. Someone please help me.

  • Welcome to the daily story of thousands of webmasters. Ranking a site on Google based on certain tactics for the long term used to work, but now only seem to work for a while. One can not rely on Google anymore to keep a site in a certain spot or page for longer than a day. It's best to start exploring alternative traffic generating tactics.

Are you saying that organic SEO is dead? Passive income is no longer a possibility? Please explain how I can get around this : (

SEO is living and well although the methods have changed. I am sorry to hear about your site, I recommend YouTube videos targeted to your niches keywords, and or commenting on all of them like I do

Even though I have hardly any backlinks and lack youtube videos (both of which I'm going to start focusing on now, btw) I still don't see how in just 24 hours I can grow from 2,000 impressions down to virtually nothing over night

      It's simple...

One of the PhDs at the googleplex changed a value or two in the weighting algorithm, the database updated, and poof...

Organic SEO isn't dead, but it's about as unstable and unreliable as that cousin or uncle no one likes to talk about...

Selling SEO services to people who want to believe it's still stable and reliable, on the other hand, seems to be going like gangbusters. When something happens, all they have to do is sell you a service that undoes the last thing they sold you...

Btw, not sure if this gives any clues to the whole situation, but I go to the rich snippets tool to preview the site and get this:

We are sorry. The service you requested is currently unavailable. Please try again later.

Then I try any other site or any other url and it works. Hmm what's up with that?

I understand you have reviews from that website but why are your links plastered all over there site.

    Looks like Google got yah.

Number 11 or page 11? Also, Reviews & Information on the Best Prohormones Available Today! is my site. From what I understand, I only have one link from there going to bodybuilding motivation. Also, none of those back links that currently exist for the site were done by me.

I literally have never done a back link for the site other than the prohormone site you found.

Im showing them on every page but you have to pull up the source code to find them. There all in the source code but not on the pages. Could be some sort of trackback your script is causing.

Your experience is quite common. Google is sending most websites to the last pages with the intention to force everyone to use their Adwords account if they want to drive traffic to their websites.

This is why today you cannot easily get free traffic like before.

You have to get adapted to the new situation.

  • Don't over react yet. It could be a normal Google dance. Give it a week or two to see if it stabilizes. I've literally seen rankings change within days and hours depending on the keyword and niche. Unfortunately SEO is like a moving target now.

So it's important to diversify where you get traffic and no matter where you get your traffic, be sure you're collecting email addresses so you can reach your visitors at will and don't have to be at the whim of Google.

But for now, don't do anything crazy. What I would suggest is to get back to writing content consistently. Google seems to love websites that are updated regularly. So get back to writing content asap and keep doing it every week. Don't let up on that.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear that. I've come to believe that Google is just too unstable to really count on. I consider any Google traffic as icing on the cake to my other efforts.

But all isn't lost on the passive income front. YouTube gets you visitors 24/7. All you have to do is make videos (even if they're slideshows) and use them to get people to your site. I like to think of them as a bunch of little traffic machines that never quit.

Also, I'd suggest forum marketing if you can find any in that niche that allow links in signatures. It won't be passive in the same way that YouTube would be, but the visitors will be high quality as you build up a name for yourself.

I think you are over reacting a bit. Sure, I know that feeling of your heart literally dropping when you see your ranking gone and you keep hitting the next button on the serp hoping its at least on the next page. But to be honest, 24 hours is not that much time to think all is lost.

Just last month it happened to me. I had a new site (4 months old) that I got it to rank for almost every keyword I wrote an article for, all without any huge backlinking. Everything was great, traffic hit up to 1500 UV a day, then all of a sudden it was gone. Every single keyword ranking was lost.

I actually posted a thread here about it as well. I waited 2 weeks and the site came back stronger than before. But again last night it has dropped a few spot for most keywords, which makes me think (since yours was in the same time range) that there maybe was a small update of some sort, perhaps a tweaking of a signal or something, or more likely it's just the normal Google dance.

Keep at it and it will come back. Believe me, ranking is way easier these days than it ever was. Trust me, your site will come back.

Well, you're still indexed, so that's a good sign.

Do you have your site in Google Webmaster Tools? If so, Google will tell you if they have taken any manual action against your site inside your GMT dashboard for that site.

    Hi,
I think your site has gone down due to Google penguin attack.
Few basic tips to avoid Google penguin attack:
    • Remove all low quality backlinks or add all links to Google disavow (If deletion not possible)
    • Collect backlinks from high quality (Related, High PR and High Domain Authority etc) niches.
    • Do not use exact match keywords every time. Use synonyms, long-tail and sometimes domain also.
    • Do not copy content.
    • Do not use any software/tools for building backlinks.

Is using SENuke a bad idea? I don't usually use automation software, although since I lack backlinks I was highly considering a quick campaign on that.

Who knows. I did notice, btw, that I had a subdomain with a "yahoo answers" type of theme that got LITERALLY 10's of thousands of spam accounts and comments, 99.9% of them in japanese or chinese. Now I notice a ton of spam-like backlinks coming from what looks to be the same spammers.

All the backlinks are pointing to the domain questions.bodybuilding.com which after I noticed that I promptly deleted. How can I get rid of these unwanted backlinks?
