If your Off-Page SEO is much better, then you should be #1... Are you sure you don't have any SPAMMY backlinks? Investigate very careful your backlinks... If everything is OK, try to get a few more... But only HIGH QUALITY -> forget blog comments for example... Guest blogging and quality article marketing would work good!

Much of the time you just need time. In other words, you backlinks gain strength as they age and pass this authority on to your website over time.

Having said this, I would strongly recommend doing an SEO audit of your website and making sure that ON PAGE is completely optimized.

Also, do you have a blog? Add more content to your blog daily and link your blog posts back to your homepage.

Do you share your website content on social media? I am of the camp who believes in Social Signals. Share your content on Twitter and get people to re-tweet it. Post new blog posts to your Facebook page and get people to Like, Share and Comment. Get Google +1's, etc.

All of these things are going to give you advantages over at least some if not all of the 7 websites that are ahead of you because most people are not willing to take these steps.

    1. make sure you got your KW's on the URL, Title, Description and content
    2. open another variation page using the same keywords but talking on a different subject
    3. make sure both pages are linked from the menu
    4. change link strategy to both pages monthly. (1st month - social s.a forums, web2 and articles 2nd month paid links, 3rd month likes and shares and so on)
    5. rinse and repeat

Add articles and content to your website, submit a sitemap, see if you can increase the page loading speed, send out a Press Release, create a Youtube video that links to your website.

Basically anything that can gain attention and help users

are you permanetly at #8? if you are dancing at least wait until you see where you are. you might be trying to go from #40 to #1 and not realize it. thats harder than going from #8 to #1

Going from #8 to #1 takes time. It's lot more harder than being at #30 from 300. If I were you, I would have built some more powerful links and some social network promotion.

Things get a lot tougher when your on page 1, by the way, old click rate studies (from before ads above organic results) showed that moving up 2 positions on page 1 doubles the search clicks.

All those competition analysis factors are important, market samurai is a quick source of some of that data. The quality of content pages and backlinks matter as well as the raw volumes. These days higher quality backlinks may be needed just to avoid penalty.

Maybe you have more back links, but of what quality are they?

If your onsite seo is spot on, try and get some highly relevant links. And most importantly. Give it some time (:

Consider checking your website. Do you update your site regularly with helpful contents? Are you getting links from high authority sites? Remember, Google loves a website which has fresh, original content that is valuable to the users and is easy to navigate.

It could be that your competitor’s has more one-way backlinks than yours. It doesn’t matter how many backlinks you have, as long as you’re acquiring links from different authority sites. Diversify your links by building from different types of websites with a mix of do-follow and no-follow blog posts, Web 2.0s, wiki, social bookmarking, press releases, article directory submission, etc. More content indicates more crawl visits, more visitors and more readers – and will lead to greater traffic and a higher place in the SERP.

The other thing you can check is to make sure your website is not penalized.

Considering that all your onpage is optimized .... I would recommend hardcore backlinking from ONLY high quality sites (anchor text)

If you want to rank #1 then do an SEO analysis of your site. Look where you are lacking from. Use unique content for articles and blogs, Guest blogging and info graphics are very hot topic in SEO and its weight age is more.

Do more SMO, you can also go for PPC if you really rank for #1.

    Thanks
