WebMD Spamming Google SERP

Two almost identical content ranking for Position 1 and 4.
keyword: goji berry health benefits

http://www.webmd.boots.com/healthy-e...d-side-effects

I notice webmd had been using the same tactic for lots of keywords. What happen to Panda and Penguin?

  • It's an "authority site" so Google ranks those pages, it's safer than ranking some unknown site which is more likely to be spam - logical, right?

  • Panda and Penguin have nothing to do with this.

That's not spam. That's the benefit of having a website that is a leading authority in a market.

That 2nd link is a sub-domain, that's two different domains. Same goes for your other two links/examples (sub-domain).

  • Leveraging their authority, BUT I do think, and know from experience, that authority sites can lose some of their authority if they abuse their "status". I have got sloppy with a site that was an authority in a narrow field and started adding thin content with mostly affiliate links, and guess what happened...

How is a sub-domain leveraging authority?

OPs examples are from two different domains.
      • hxxp://www.webmd.com
      • hxxp://www.webmd.boots.com

Does Webmd even own the sub-domain?

      site:boots.com

That site: search looks fishy to me.

  • Boots.com seem like a legit site from UK. The site got its own HONcode hxxp://www.hon.ch/HONcode/Conduct.html?HONConduct327172

Is boots.com related to WebMD? Even the WebMD logo is exact match. Boots.com and WebMD work together by leveraging both domain authority and spam Google SERP with duplicate content? or is it not?

Looks like they have a partner deal going on (Webmd + Boots):

      hxxp://www.webmd.boots.com/about-webmd-policies/default.htm

  • Boots is a very big and reputed company and they have a number of stores in UK. They have a partner deal for content with webmd.

But it seems webmd is ranking and raking for most of the medical keywords.
