The purpose of this thread is to bring in enough feedback to let others and myself review and compare this business model against others. To keep this interesting and valuable for everyone, please submit your review based on experience rather then theory from ebooks.

Each person responding can enter their personal experience with what ever online business model they are actually doing currently to make money online and will point out the advantages and disadvantages of their method vs the adsense method.

Not sure if these are considered online business models but let me know:

  1. membership sites
  2. ecommerce sites like cutlery
  3. information marketer
  4. generating leads for mortgage, insurance companies

1) How does this adsense online business model work and is this still an effective way to earn money online from sites one sets up to earn revenue strictly from adsense ads?

2) How does this adsense money making business online model compare, to other money making business online models?

3) Can this adsense business model be super charged to earn money from other services or products from the same site or will it have a bad effect and lower the response to the google ads if one is selling other services like advertising, or ebooks on a given topic.

1 - It has some uses in a few niches where selling stuff is not easy. Untargeted traffic comes to mind. Everything else I'd say, no.

2 - It sucks. You'll be killing yourself to get traffic and then trying every possible trick to get those people out of your website. Most of them will be lost forever. People hate ads and it will make your website look like crap.

3 - The less choice the better. If you have adsense on your website while trying to sell your own stuff, you'll get a reduced number of buyers for your products while possibly damaging your brand. Can you imagine Apple using adsense on their website?

You can be successful doing adsense but most sites business models can be improved by taking it off and trying something else. Notice I've said most, not all

I think an Adsense business model can work providing that making money with Adsense is your goal from day one. If you try and take an already established website and try to monetize it with Adsense you likely won't earn more than pennies.

However, if before you ever register a domain, you do some thorough keyword research and can find a keyword phrase or phrases in a relatively high paying niche with a fair number of searches and relatively low competition then there is good money to be made. Register a domain with your main keyword in it, focus all your content on that keyword and related longtail keywords, and build backlinks with those keyword phrases as your anchor text. That's it. It is a pretty simple recipe and easy to duplicate.

The best part about building sites with the recipe above is they can generate truly passive income for years to come. That is the biggest thing that appeals to me about the Adsense business model. In a few years I want to be traveling, and want a regular income without having to worry about babysitting my websites/clients on a daily basis. I'm sure there are other methods that will make you more money than Adsense on, but if you eventually want to be almost completely hands off I believe there is no better option.

        Thanks for the feedback...

What I did not ask is how do people get paid, do people have to actually click on the ad, not quite sure about how this business model works...

What does this mean finding kw's in a high paying niche, what or whom determines a high paying niche.

Is it the company that determines the payout on adsense ads if so how is this determine, not sure what all this means, could you clarify how this works please.

Is the income here dependent on how much traffic I get?

Is income dependent on also on different niches that I select so I have to be careful which niche I set up a site on.?

How does one get paid with adsense does vistors to ones site have to click on ad in order for me to get paid.?

Anything I can read up somewhere on how the adsense business model works and if it still worth persuing it at all.

        thanks

Easiest thing is to set up an Adsense account - it doesn't cost anything - and read through Google's information,

onpointinfo - Your visitors have to click on the Adsense ads on your site in order for you to get paid.

The amount of traffic will have a definite impact on your income.

A high paying niche is one where advertisers are paying a high amount of money to have their chosen keywords show up in Google's search results. Specialty health services and personal injury law are a couple of examples of this. However, the higher paying a niche is the more competition there is likely to be. The idea is to find the balance between high pay/frequent searches with the lowest competition possible. Not easy, but an essential step.

It is definitely a business model worth pursuing, but like any business don't throw money at it until you've outlined a plan that you are confident will work.

Yes. Some older methods don't work like they used to, thus you'll see a lot of people saying "Adsense doesn't work anymore", but working SEO to get targeted traffic works quite well today.

I think it's important to have diversity in the ways you monetize. Having a single monetization model can result in your income suddenly being cut. I also believe in having multiple domains and not working a single domain.

This isn't such a good idea. It's best to have one type of monetization as the 'star of the show'.

It appears that this business model may not be as easy as it appears at first to be.

I appears that it is contingent on how much traffic one gets and then the ctr, if no one is clicking through then no money.

So the question is, would time be better spent learning ppc marketing as opposed to building multiple authority sites with many pages which could take some time to accomplish, is this a model that one should focus on strictly and no other since it appears that you would have to have more then one site for this to generate enough revenue for you and unless the traffic is there to encourage enough ctr's no money once again...

Actually there is alot to think about here, since it appears that it is not as easy as it sounds either...

For those higher paying adword kw's it may be too competitive for them...

Wow....but I think now that maybe that it is still may be a good idea to build these sites as one is doing other business model since this model creates passive income as opposed to other systems.
