Internal Link Format

Hi All,

I have never given this much thought until today. I found a new niche and decided to build the site with HTML instead of going down the route of Wordpress, etc.. (Just trying to look a little different from the crowd)

Anyhow, SEO time on the site and I am building Internal links.
My question is what is the best format for these:-

http://www.mynichesite.com/whichformat.html
or
/whichformat.html

Thanks

  • Both of those will appear identical to the search engine.
  • You're better off having the /whichformat.html format without the full URL. Google spiders are more likely to follow/index internal links.

That said there is no real difference since the spiders are bound to be smart enough to look at the site name and name in the link and figure out they are the same.

    • Andy is right! There is no difference.

  • There is a great difference (but not for the search engines)
Thieves won't steal or mirror your content if you set up your links with the full domain-path

    • This is true if you have a site with lots of pages.

If you have a single page website it's easy for a fee to use the find replace function and replace your domain with their own.

As far as search engines are concerned I don't think it really matters.
  • Thanks everyone, I have gone with the full url excluded as it seems to be the common answer.

    THANKS
