Linking site together

I just need a second thought on my plan in creating a small link wheel out of my client's client website. Yes, I am a third party resource.

Since most of the websites are in the same niche like 5 of them. So, just wondering if this is safe. I'm going to put the link on the article section.

Thanks.

For clearing things up, you might want to check out Google Webmaster guidelines about link schemes.

Well, link building in any method is a scheme when you're aware you're doing it just to rank pages.

I just wanted to know if someone is doing this to their client and still not get caught by Google.

I would not go for link wheels, makes it easier for Google to catch us. Secondly clients would not love if their rankings drop like a stone

It's not about IF you get caught, It's about when you'll get caught there's no way back.
    So follow the instructions strictly.

I wouldn´t use link wheels on money sites or sites relying on SE traffic.

I tried it around a year ago on white-hat web2.0´s with unique articles on them and it didn´t end well - just an experiment though.

Does your client know your creating link wheels with their sites? I hope your not doing this for personal gain (links for you).

The client is aware that I've created link wheels using web 2.0 properties for his clients' websites but strictly quality wheels, as far as how i perceived "quality" though.

But for the plan of using his actual clients' websites for link wheel he doesn't know yet about this plan. All of the sites have article section thought I could use this by referencing other websites (clients) on the same niche since i have access to all the sites.

Partly yes for personal gain since I need to show some results to them.

I am the second resource who work for him, athough there are some movements in ranking but generally it is not yet enough.

Have you ever looked at the bottom of amazon.com? You will see dozens
of sites amazon owns and links to, from, every which way and sideways.

They are all in similar "niches" to funnel traffic in and out of amazon.com.

Like boxofficemojo.com. A powerful box office reporting site...um...used
by amazon to do none other than sell movies from amazon.com...ditto
with imbd.com, the most powerful internet movie database that is
used unabashedly by amazon to sell stuff...did you know amazon owns
        alexa?

I always say that if you want to be a big dog, do what the big dogs do.
They readily create linking wheels, trees, triangles, whatever it takes to
create a linked up online empire. Want more? How about ebay, go.com,
        wikipedia, etc. etc. etc....

If you are doing nothing wrong with the sites, no problem. Normally when
people ask the question you are, they are doing things that are not too
kosher. That's the real problem, not the link wheel or linking up.

But I'll tell you what. if you have no clue, and asking this stuff, why on
earth do you have paying clients?

I think for your question, it already answered by your signature.

On the serious note, I would say that I'm not really that expert when it comes to SEO and I know I still have more readings and a lot more readings to do because I only rely on somebody else's case studies and experts' experiments and suggestions. And I believe this gave me enough knowledge to meet the goals of my client in fact it did.

But somehow I still need some others opinion.

          Thanks Paul!

No doubt, link wheel a good strategy to get traffic through the qualitative backlinks if linking unique and relevant content and of course in the relevant niche (that you are already doing in) . I am saying from personal experience that this technique works great when done organically.
