Hello,

First of all, sorry for my poor English and I hope I could explain everything here clearly. I have read too many threads about Silo structure, but still confused and cannot get one step further. The idea behind Silo is more focusing on the root keywords, and link supporting pages each other, link category page to homepage, etc..

I have done everything as it was talked in WF especially the ideas given by Yukon.

However, I have a website which is broad and so keywords cannot focus on the root keywords to have a good Silo. Lets say my website's domain is sportstourismtocalifornia.com and the title "Sports Tourism California". It is almost 7 months old.

Now, as you guess, I cannot focus only sports tourism California keyword because the first reason there is no enough traffic, the second reason is there are no too many keywords that can create Silo categories and supporting pages on the homepage root keyword.

So, what I have done basically to have a Silo structure, I created Silos from the non-root keywords like;

sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-travel >>>>SILO
-sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-vacation/
-sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-holidays/
-sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-activities-abroad/
-sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-travel-companies/
-sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-travel-agency/
-sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-travel-service/
-sportstourismtocalifornia.com/activity-hotels-california/

The second issue starts with other Silos because they are different than the root keyword of the homepage, but it still belongs to Sports.

sportstourismtocalifornia.com/surf-tourism/>>>>>SILO
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/surf-travel/
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/surf-vacations/
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/surf-holidays/
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/surf-activity-abroad/
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/surf-tourism-california/

And the other Silos and supporting pages are completely different but still they belong to sports and my business and customers where i need to focus on; The reason i use some broad keywords, because I would like to attract sports lovers from all over the world to California.

sportstourismtocalifornia.com/mountain-bikes/>>>>SILO
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/mountain-bikes/mountain-bikes-cost
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/mountain-bikes/best-mountain-bikes-attractions/
and so on...

I am really not sure if I am on the right truck, doing Silo properly or totally broke Silo and website is focused to nowhere?

There are other issues I had with ranking because of this Silo structure.

For example,
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-travel/>>>Silo
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-vacation>>>The main domain ranking in SERP instead of this url.
sportstourismtocalifornia.com/sports-holidays>>>Same problem here as well for ranking.

Although, I had submitted the homepage to Yahoo, BOTW, etc.. My ranking is decreasing. I would like to have link campaign soon for inner pages, but if SILO is not right what I tried to achieve, or the urls are totally wrong, or even they block link flow or worse they are penalized, I have to focus on fixing the issues before starting link campaign, otherwise it will be waste of time to work on the wrong urls for linking.

Please, if you give me some ideas, I would really appreciate for your help.

Thanks,

Seko
