unnatural link message from google

Hello,
One of my sites received an unnatural links alert from google and has dropped in rankings as a result. I am now removing old links and working towards a reconsideration request i will be submitting.

my question is - as a backup plan, if i open a new domain and have a home page that will link to the old website, will that hurt me? the new homepage will look similar but will not have the same text in order to avoid duplicate content.
since it may take a while for the reconsideration to be approved i am wondering if i can at least get some rankings for this new homepage so at least the company name will get decent rankings as now also when searching for the company the website comes up way low in the results.

    I suppose it would depend on how bad the damage is. IF its going to take you a long time to get the old website cleaned up (i.e. more time than it would take you to rank a new one), then maybe its worth it. I would try cleaning up the old one if its not that bad.

  • It sounds like you don't care about the work you did on the first domain. If that's the case and it's a throwaway domain just move on and you can copy the old site's content once the old site has been deindexed from Google. Start by disabling the website altogether and monitor the index.

    If this domain was worthwhile and you built a legitimate business with traffic than as the previous guy mentioned you will need to remove the violating backlinks or your penalty won't ever be removed. Be sure that you are doing more than disavow as disavow alone won't do a darn thing. Be sure you actually remove the links. Keep in mind this is a long, slwo and boring process. I recommend using a service like linkdelete for link removals. I would also suggest using linkdetox to identify your bad links first though.

  • I agree with ContentAuthority, it all depends how much damage is google going to give to your site. But you should keep an eye on it and in meanwhile you can build a new site and monetize it just in case of any unexpected loss to your old site.

    I spent a lot of time removing the bad links (@OutSourCed these were not purchased links but links from directories that are useless today) and filed a reconsideration request. hopefully google will remove the penalty quickly.

    • Can you explain why you think that directories are useless? Do you have the same opinion about niche directories like ours?
  • If the damage is really huge, you need to create a new website- there is no need to linked the new domain from the old one. It's best if you just start fresh.

    On the other hand, if you believe your old site can still be saved, I suggest just continue removing all the bad links then focus on creating quality content. Try to also build good backlinks instead of just spamming. Focus on content more- even in your SEO and marketing campaign.
