Using hyphens or not in an eye of Google is the same but not in visitors eyes. It's more clear and better not to use hyphens. Try to put yourself in visitors position and put in front of you two same domain name but one with hyphens...

Why keyword in domain???? See the big domains Google, Yahoo, Facebook... any keyword on them??? if you go on Flippa you can see many sites worth thousands of $$$ with no sense domain name...I think you got to concentrate yourself on the content, keywords must be on the content.

For SEO purposes and in the eyes of Google, it does not make a difference. I don't use hyphens in domain names but I often use them for posts and pages, for example; mydomain com /new-post

According to Google point of view, with hyphen or without hyphen both are not different.
But I mostly uses hyphens in my website's pages, not in main domain name.

There is no need to use keyword and hyphens in the domain. If you are thinking after using keyword in the domain name you will get higher ranking then please read about Google "exact domain name" algorithm.

If domain is available without hyphens than go for it. Making a EMD is best way to get good results in quicker way. But if your name is not available than you can use hyphens...All the best.

Hyphens in domain won't be good. Domain name works as brand name for a site. So try to take a domain name that can be pronounced easily and people don't have remember any special character.

My personal opinion would be to try to avoid domain names with hyphen because they are more difficult to remember. When you give the domain name to your friends and customers they may not remember if it did have hyphen or not.
There are some popular websites that have hyphen on their domains but it is a minority.
In terms of branding I would recommend it without. It just looks cleaner and will be easier to remember.


Having the keyword that you are trying to target in the domian name worked before but now there are so many other factors taken into accoutn when it comes to your position in the search engines that I would not get too obsessed about it.


Having the exact keyword in your domain can make the domain look spammy.

Hyphenated domain names are not attractive to look at and they are more complicated to remember. Users are likely to commit errors in typing unless they bookmark your site. Like what is mentioned, hyphens are more used in pages and posts.

My feeling is that it is easier to read a hyphenated domain name in the address bar in general as the individual words just stand out much better when separated by a hyphen.

So if I was really serious about a web site I was building and intended to use it for a long period of time, I would buy both the hyphenated and unhyphenated version of the domain name and redirect users who typed in the unhyphenated version to the hyphenated version as it was easier to read and therefore easier remember.

I would not though buy a hyphenated version of a domain name if someone else owned the unhyphenated version. That won't work.

To use hyphens or not to doesn't make any difference for SEO point of view. But short and simple names without hyphens are always given preference by users.
For SEO you should focus on getting top quality articles on your keywords.

I think hyphen should not be use in domain name. Google love simple domain name. You can use keywords in content. And get quality backlinks from authority websites.

if you can get the domain without hyphens then great, but still take the one with hyphens as it stops competition, my own site has now been launched with a 2 instead of TO by competition as I took the hyphen version as a safe guard and now glad I did.

Fact is - EMD still get a big bonus just google watch them now a bit closer to avoid the usual WF member who thinks a EMD + No Hand SEO will make him rich in short times.
