Why some people's signatures link to web2.0 sites?

I found some people place their signatures in Web2.0 sites with text links.
Like wordpress, blogspot, tumblr and weebly.
I think they place their website links in web 2.0 sites, right?

Such as seo service company- text link to a wordpress.com website.

Is it good for your website ranking ?

    Not all the time you need to have a direct link to your main site it is not healthy for the campaign.

    They are trying to create back link for their sites. Its depends how you use it. If you doing for link wheel purpose than you need to careful about anchor text variation....

    They will target the keywords to those web 2.0 sites. And ofcourse they may get good reference from warrior forum for leads and sales.
