Newbie Looking for Some Insight

I have a new site that I really just started marketing (only through Twitter and Facebook - no paid marketing whatsoever). I update my blog multiple times a day in a real niche area. It gives tips and tricks on how to save money, so I can't sell or charge anything for the content (it would be very hypocritical). I have no background in this, just a bunch of great content and real traction being made. I have one modest Adsense ad on my posts pages. My main goal is to drive visitors and then plan my monetization, probably through paid advertising.

That being said, here are my results for the last month:
32,301 visits
19,672 unique visitors
51,146 page views
1.68 pages/visit
2:30 avg. visit duration
71.2% bounce rate

Adsense numbers for Sept:
$38.12 estimated earnings
29,366 page views
60 clicks
.2% CTR
$1.30 page RPM

I know I'm on to something, but am not even sure if these are the key metrics to watch. Does any of this look out of whack - any thoughts?

The CTR is a bit low, I would suggest trying different ad placement. See which location on your site gets you more clicks. Your bounce rate is pretty high to, this could be related to the content, website navigation|web Design or technical issue with the site.

Just giving you some my opinion to give you some ideas.

20k unique visitors per month and earnings $40 is pretty bad...

VERY untargeted/pointless traffic or you should consider affiliate marketing / CPA offers ASAP.

Even if they ain't in the "buying mode", you can still get some $$$ from maxbounty offers (zip, email, install offers for example)

However, I have to give you thumbs up for the traffic that you have managed to generate through FB and Twitter.

Optimize the ad-size and the location of the ads on your site (if you use wordpress you could use Heatmap Pro for this). Experiment and see what works best.

Thanks, it is my first month of actually posting content. Knowing now that I am on to something is why I'm posting here. I figure just by writing about what I know and providing my target audience tips and advice will drive traffic.

    Prior to that I had:

    June: 607 unique visitors
    July: 1,065
    August: 1,416
    September: 20,490

With 13k returning visitors in Sept, they are coming for the content. I will look into maxbounty - not familiar with that. My site is optimized, although server response time sucks (Network Solutions). Thanks for the Heatmap tip, adding that now.

If you sign up to MaxBounty, have a conversation with your affiliate manager about your traffic and current sponsors. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't earn more through CPA offers than Adsense, though it's hard to say without seeing your page. You might have to alter your content a little to max revenue but even just one creditreport.com sale and you've earned $29... and that rate goes up with volume!
