What's a private blog network?

Hi all,

I'm confused about private blog networks.

I currently operate in a certain niche. Let's say it's cars. And I have two fairly successful websites, say on BMWs and Fords. I was therefore planning to create more websites about other types of car and link them all together to help them rank better / more quickly.

This seemed like a sensible idea, and I don't see why Google would object when it's all quality content.

However, then I see talk of private blog networks, and it sounds like they're an underhand tactic that must be kept hidden.

Please could someone clarify what exactly a PBN is and how it differs to what I'm doing (if it does!)?

Thanks!

It would be to create a bunch of niche related blogs with high PA/DA PR with the sole purpose of directing all of this link juice to your money site. There is quite a bit to know about creating one so that you dont get caught though. But they work extremely well if done properly.

Adam what you are doing is done in huge corporations. Companies like Disney do it for all their related properties. Job service sites create all kind of additional targeted sites. Adobe provides followed links to their partners. Microsoft does it and yes I have even seen Google's very own Youtube link with followed link to partner sites.

No one including google complains. They only complain when the small guy does what the big companies do. I would not let it worry me. make your quality sites, keep them separate and link as you wish. The main thing that gives away a network is crappy content and unrelated links which your sites should have none of.

The whole idea that a company can not link to its other properties is crazy anyway. What group of companies with more than one location and related services would not use all their companies to advertise and create increased visibility for all of their businesses?

          +1
It's even crazier when you have to ask for a permission from another company when you want to link to your other sites.

That's how you build long term links & sleep at night.

Build legit sites, use the legit sites for links, monetize the legit backlink sites with targeted traffic, pass the legit traffic back & forth between your network of sites (winning).

If anyone tells you only large sites can get away with building a legit same niche network of your sites they're BSing you.

Private blog network is a collection of high PR authority sites with low number of external links. Backlinks from those sites can help you to get good ranking improvements.
