I'm still a big fan of Market Samurai. However, I haven't used it lately so I don't know how it interacts with Google's new Keyword Planner.

The Google Keyword planner is still the best.
That is the one that used to be the old Google Keyword tool.

Yes, you are right since they updated it it lost some
of its value but it still gives the most reliable information.

Market Samurai is great... and easy to use after watching a tutorials from their site (it is pretty much clear after that!)

However... late rumors are that it uses Bing! as a Search Engine... not Google.

I used it one year ago, and I had great results with it... Now I am outsourcing Keyword research, so I don't know.

    Check it additionally.

I found good results with Micro Niche Finder, although it is a little buggy at times.
Market Samurai is good also, but I find it slighly more complicated to use.
Traffic Travis is a free tool that works well and I'd like to explore that more.

At the moment my keyword research is based around finding some nice long-tail keywords to target.

I like to write lots of keyword targeted pages of content around lot of different long-tail keyword variations for a steady stream of traffic and leads that way rather than trying to compete for any 1 particular high traffic terms.

For that I use Keyword XP by Paul Clifford. It was a WSO on here when it launched, but I believe it is closed now. Might be available elsewhere though.

If you are doing affiliate review sites, then that sort of long-tail keyword tool might be a big help to find some of the less obvious product name keywords to target away from the obvious "product name review" phrase.

And then I sometimes use Traffic Travis (free version) if I do decide to try and rank for a particular higher traffic term and want to check competition.

    i currently use keyword king.

it's web-based and works fast. i've used it to find longtail keywords for my blog articles and it works great! my articles gets into google fast. webmaster tools show several search results just a couple of days after posting an article.

i previously used keyword xp but their recent update doesn't want to install and now it's useless.

There is nothing wrong with the new Google Keyword Planner, in fact it saves us the time to check the EXACT box.

Yes, my suggestion would be to suck it up and learn the new keyword tool at Google.

This is kind of blah blah. I mean come on, my friend, I want to be lazy too at times, but it's something that we just cannot be lazy at.

Heck, when I first got started Internet marketing always in it to learn. I Frickin enjoyed it , and if my joy of learning ever fails me. I will make sure I'm onto something that supports my joy.. And I suggest the same for you.

Heck, I even put out training material on this stuff...

    Try this one

    Free - Keyword list

Same data that you used to get from free Keyword Tool, but it also displays number of competing websites "searched with quotes" and results - searches without quotes. Global and local search volume and CPC on the same page and also the US market share (% of searches coming from US)

And unlike Keyword Tool that returns 800 results per query, you get ALL the results that have more than 400 searches per month. Eg. keyword "free" will return 18,032 in about 3 seconds. I know it's slow at the moment. It used to be 0.3 seconds.

Unlike Keyword Tool you can use WILDCARD search, like this:

    * - Keyword list

.. to find ALL the keywords that pay more than 50 bucks per click.

Enjoy and remember, the price is negotiable!

There going to be tons of applications people use, and are in love with.

In reality there a mixture of tools you should be using. We personally use for clients and our own work Long Tail Pro (since we're too lazy to go into Google Keyword Tool), and then Keyword Research.

Make sure you get Long Tail Pro Platinum(its 12 bucks a month, but it's worth it) so you can hook it up with Moz. Using the Moz API you can gather their competitive analysis tool.

Check it out! It can save you tons of time, plus Moz API is free.

Keyword Research tool does Instant Google results. You type something out like this * coupons, and then it uses the * to enter in different letters to generate tons and tons of keywords.

Then I take all those keywords, and put them into Long Tail Pro to see the stats on them (ie Traffic, etc.)

It's all about saving time with keyword research.
