adwords adgroups uneven spending distribution?

Hey Guys,

I was wondering something. Does Adwords pick and choose ad groups to serve based on some algorithm? I have 4 adgroups set up in one display network campaign. The max CPC is not an issue as it is equal high enough to get clicks, but adwords seems to only serve what adgroups it wants....

Is there a way to ensure equal / more even distribution of spending amongst the 4 ad groups in the one campaign?

  • Sounds like you have the ad rotation setting set to "Optimized for Clicks". So it's showing the ones it thinks will get the most clicks. SO you want to change that setting to "Rotate Evenly".

To get there, click on the campaign you want to change, then click settings and at the bottom go to where it says "Ad delivery: Ad rotation, frequency capping"

    • Ahhh good call. I was unaware that optimize for clicks impacted the distribution of spend between ad groups. I always thought it just allowed adwords to pick and choose which ads to serve within specific ad groups.

  • Hi,

You can set up a dedicated budget from withing the AdWords Website. The easiest way though would be to just split them up into four different campaigns. Also, if you do no currently use it, download AdWords Editor, it will make your life with AdWords a lot easier!
