SEO vs SEM

I have been discussing with several people which is more important between SEO and SEM. SEO has been very popular over the years but the SEM acronym has been making a name for itself.

I believe they go hand in hand but the difference is:

SEO = Optimizing your website
SEM = Marketing your site

If your site is optimized for the search engines to find and rank it top ten for exposure frequently, do you think SEM is still necessary.

If you run an effective online marketing campaign to gain wide exposure, do you think your site still need effective optimization?
#search engine optimization #sem #seo
  • I use both adwords and organic traffic.
    one of my sites is #4 and #7 and top 10 for other keywords too and I still use adwords for them.
    I read an article somewhere that ppc clicks dont replace organic clicks. some people just dont like to click on ads in the search results, others just click on the first one..I suggest using both, but make sure to track conversions from both as well.

  • For long time and consistence results, SEO is the best best. Becoz with the help of organic seo it takes some time to rank your website, but after attain the ranking, it will for long time, if we work less for these keywods. So in my opinion SEO is important as compared to SEM
  • SEO is the best one for the Long drive.
    PPC is the best for instant results.
    Some times your ranking will be in 5th position or 6th position. In that case, if you dont like to loose your clients, you need to do ppc .
    Because 40 % of time people like to visit 1st position in the search engines.
  • the reality is these work hand in hand. No matter how much you're spending on SEM, if you don't have a solid SEO strategy you're throwing money away. Adwords specifically will only be effective if Google can verify that your ads are leading to relevant content. You'll also "magically" see better SEO results if you're spending money on AdWords - Google won't come right out and say it, but the reality is if you're willing to spend money on sending a targeted ad to your website based on your set keywords, those same keywords are going to give you a better SEO score. It makes sense, but is also a conflict of interest for Google which is why it's not stated anywhere.

    Bottom line - to be effective - you gotta do both!
