I'm wondering what is the SEO value of a domain name. The domain is question is exact match, but its a one word domain, so no spammy hashes in between words. At the same, there is a competitive .com site with the same URL, the one I'm looking at is a .net.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Exact-match domains can still be useful to grab because even when you build links naturally, using your domain name as the anchor, since the targeted keyword is already present inside your links, you will benefit from improved chances of ranking high. Of course even the best EM domains do need to get professionally promoted through links and contents. You can find a ton of high ranking websites even in competitive niches without any terms inside their domains but they rank greatly because of links plus contents.

SEOs release the value of keywords. When naming your site, and deciding on a domain name, try combining the lessons of SEO, branding and domaining.

Nowaday's it has to be reinforced by another SEO-actions, but it still holds for sure an important spot in google's alogorythm - if not abused and the domain really matches the site content

It takes time up to your site gets an authority. Your site should contain quality content and avoid using EMD as much as possible.

I wouldn't rely much on keyword in the domain name. Yes, experiments show that to some extent EMDs rank high in search results. Still, there's also evidence that Google is growingly viewing them as spamy.
One way or another, keywords in a domain name might be just one thing that can help you rank for your keywords. And there are hundreds of other factors that play their role as well.

    .com is still king.
.tlds I'd stay away from outside of .net
keyword in the url still has weight and helps with ranking.

I would much rather get a .com and build a brand over an exact match unless it's spam.

The responses are poor, shame on you! haha!

The value of the domain will vary.

It will depend on the keyword, it will also depend on the niche (do they have high CPC in adwords?) and it will also vary on the search volume. And in some respect, it will vary based on the competition, so for example, if the SERPS are competitive, it will be harder to rank, thus decreasing the value to an investor.

EMDs work don't listen to people who say they don't and also AGED domains work for SEO purposes.

A Domain name is very important when it comes to SEO value. If you select a good keyword for your domain, combined with other search engine ranking strategies, your ranking will improve quickly. However, a keyword phrase is better than one keyword if you want to see quicker results. One keyword is normally under heavy competition, so your ranking may take a long time. Moreover, one keyword is general and most website visitors use it when researching about what they want. When they have decided to buy, they normally use specific phrases instead of the general keyword.

They keep you on top as long as you meet the requirements of the KW inside your domain.
