Hey guys

Ive been hit by the latest update, and i only have a few hundred links to my site so its not like i ve ever really spammed links- the only thing i can think of is the % of anchor texts

So im thinking of using the disavow tool, to ask google to ignore many of the links my WMT shows

Any of you used it before?

thanks

As an SEO provider, we have used it a lot of times for our clients to good effect.

Here are a few things to note while using Disavow tool. Before just trying to disavow links, first you have to try to remove the bad low quality backlinks by contacting the webmasters of those particular websites. This is really a pain taking effort and you have to do it before disavowing. After that you can follow the steps in the below article.

The Disavow tool was rolled out last year. Its purpose is simple: If there are some unsavory websites in your link profile, Google Disavow can help you clean them up. The tool lets you submit a list of those sites from bad neighborhoods for Google’s consideration. Disavow will not remove the links, but it lets Google know you’d like to ignore them when it comes to your search rankings. But know this: the tool is not a cure all, and you should proceed with caution if you plan to use it as the primary means of cleaning up your link profile.

Try to remove the spam links manually by yourself. My opinion says using disavow tool is going and surrendering Google about your spam links and by which you may get penalized.

I feel lucky to never have to use it, but if I ever get into the situation, I'd do it manually,
I agree with what Annie15 said, that's reason.

You need to remove the links or try to atleast first. Google will not approve disavows without some type of link removal effort.

You can do it yourself or try a company like linkdelete, they were advertisers of this forum for a while and I tried them with good success.

Be ready for a few month endevour though.

I suspect that is correct if you get a manual penalty in Google Webmaster Tools, but I do not believe it is necessary for an algorithmic penalty. I guess I will find out in a few weeks

I guess we will but I disagree. My sites I had a link cleanup done before Penguin 2.1 are ranking like champs. My sites with a questionable backlink profile that weren't cleaned up fell the hardest.
