Custom Domain : Benefit or Loss

I want to add a custom domain name to my blog.
What will be the effects by applying Custom URL ??
ALEXA ranking will remain same or not ??

can you please give me the suggestions??

    Using a domain attached to your blog can be a great idea, especially if you plan on keeping your blog active and operating for years to come because free blogs might be gone tomorrow and so will be all your efforts. As to the Alexa ranks and traffic stats, that depends on you and whether you manage to promote your blog, advertise it, build links for it, keep adding fresh contents to it, etc. Merely using a new domain name will not change anything, unless you put time and effort into moderating your blog.

    If you mean blogspot, google does this quite well. Your blog forwards
    to the domain. No fuss, no muss.

    Nothing is changed.

    Now if you are not talking about a blogspot blog, I assume if done
    via wordpress, same thing.

    But changing the domain of a blog is the same as changing the domain of
    a website. If not done right, of course it can mess things up. You or
    someone else would need to migrate everything over. Google does this
    so easily with blogspot, so does WP. In fact, your blogspot blog right now
    can be gotten to from many urls. If someone in India visits my blog, it forwards
    them to mywords.blogspot.in automatically. If I had a custom domain, typing
    my blogspot url in would take the to my blog, with the custom domain in the
    address. And it does this for anything and everything on my blog. This is not
    so if I am migrating a site, unless I transfer everything over, url by url, complete
    with forwarders.

      Google makes it very easy to add it. Just follow the directions.
      And, the best thing? No website hosting fees...

        I just tried to add name servers in my godaddy account but I am not able to do it..
        Can you please help me in customising the nameservers ???

          As you already said your blog is in blogspot, just add your custom domain and let Google fetch it for you. Yes, @paul said it right. No hosting fees at all.

      Makes no sense. You "owning" a site matters not. if you are doing something
      unethical, illegal, improper, etc., your host can shut you down. If you
      fight with google, you can get de-indexed....

      Then what? Sure, you own "it." Now what?

        Thank you all for the great help...
        I have set the new custom domain to my blog with all your help....

        But My Custom domain got the new ALEXA ranking like setting a new domain name to any website.... :rolleyes:
