SEO - Basic question about titles

Hi there,

I have a quick question about titles for SEO purposes.

My question is does the actual page title have to be the same as the actual title tag.

For example if I titled a page www.mywebsite/vintage-comic-books.html

Would the actual title of the page have to be "Vintage comic books"

What difference does it make if the 2 are not the same.

I hope this makes sense.

    Yes, you should have 'vintage comic books' in the title, preferably with some creative wording around the heading ....eg 'ultimate online guide to vintage comic books' or 'vintage comic books which xxxx' or 'vintage comic books designed to xxxx'....but I think 'Vintage Comic Books' in this case stands on it's own too, as long as your page description then adequately expanded on it.

    Remember the SERPs results often show page title and some of the description so this is what searchers see...in a way it's an ad for your site just as if you were paying for it in a PPC campaign and were putting an ad together ( but fortunately more text allowed)

    They do not have to be the same, however, if "vintage comic books" is what you're trying to rank for, it's the best way to do it.

    Technically they don't have to be same.

    From SEO point of view, you want to include your main
    keyword in the title tag, and also in the page title.
    Also you want to place the page title between the <h1> </h1> tags.

    E.g. your main keyword is 'online business'.

    Then you absolutelly want to have 'online business' included both in your
    domain name, in your title tag and in your <h1> page title </h1>

    Farthermore, you want to have it appear on your page several times:
    - as anchor text (linked text)
    - bold text
    - italic text

    And you want to plase the keyword as high as possible on your page
    (keyword prominency).

    Yes whatever keyword your trying to rank for you want listed in the title and actual tag. Another great way to rank your site in search engines is use social book marketing sites with back links to your site.

    thanks for all the comments...In some instances I might not be able to get the title and the page title to exactly match, although I will try match as much as I can.
