DuckDuckGo vs Google vs my site

I have site that was top of its serp in google for several critical keywords for about five years. It has been declining steadily, but not precipitously, with each Penguin, et al, update. I've been tweaking to adjust to penguin et al, but I continue to loose ground slowly over time.

Meanwhile, DuckDuckgo shows my site in the top serps just like my site was in the good old days of google.

Is there anything to learn from this? Is there something that DDG likes that Google does not, that I can try to remediate for Google?

DDG obviously will have a different algorithm, one that's far less complex than Google's...

Much of what each Penguin update has targeted can be researched. Anchor text diversity, URL diversity, etc. When you say you have been tweaking things, do you mean just your on-page, or are you building new links as well? I would be building some good quality links that are permanent (e.g. blog posts [guest posts]).

Thanks for your input. I know there are other things to do. But I just wanted to float my DDG question to see if it might give a clue to a penalty area that I'm running afoul of.

It is my understanding DDG works more an relevance and less on authority.

So I would guess authority is your issue, and what you would need is high authority relevant backlinks, it is possible your old ones may have been devalued or disappeared, or your competition has gotten more than you recently.

The biggest problem with our website I think has been the % of our backlinks that went to nofollow recently. Which is pretty much all of them.

I just recently started to use DDG and I see the same thing. Some of my old sites ranking #1 or #2.

    Why?

Because G' effing penalized my sites. What you see is a search engine which does NOT penalize sites, simple as that.
