14 yr old domain.

top rankings until about Aprii then it dropped like a stone

but i have no idea why or what can i do about it? if anything...

This is why i hate s.e.o. G. just an anything they want.

I can't even find how to contact G about this. I don' spend all day re-reading their latest updates either.

any advice?

I might just give up 100% on S.E.O. it as decent free traffic but i can't jump through hoops to please the G."god"

You should get a Google WMT account to know for sure whether you have been penalized. Who knows, you may find out that the issue is on your end.

Webmaster Tools will tell you if you have an unnatural link penalty. It will also tell you if you've had manual action taken against your site when you go to submit a reconsideration request.

Is an unnatural link penalty warning separate from Penguin or Panda? I have not been given a warning, but site has gone from page 1 to 12. Trying to figure out what caused problem.

This sudden ranking drop can take place because of Google's latest Hummingbird update.

Take this however you want, but I just read a post on google product forums where a person stressed that Panda/ Penguin or any other algorithmic caused effects will not be shown in WMT because these actions are algorithmic and NOT manual. Hope that helps.

Are you on GWT to check if you got any warning notification though not always the case?

Have you analyzed your backlink profile and anchor for over optimization?

You can find the bad links and get rid of them or dilute your backlink profile.

This sounds to me like an unnatural link penalty. Check your webmaster tools section.

Maybe that doesn't exist in which case it was the algo that hurt you.

You will want to remove links and clean up your backlink profile like others have suggested. I recommend a service like linkdelete to help you do that.

Love or hate google they bring a lot of FREE traffic to your site, so either you play by the rules or don't get the traffic.

Check your webmasters account for any notification received from Google. If not, re-write your meta tags and anchor text links from external sites. Google looking for Unique & quality keywords for web pages instead to repeat same keywords.

If you built Web 2.0s – wiki, elgg, jcow, auto approve articles on PR0 domains with UNREADABLE-spun content to your money site you may have been affected. You should enable webmaster tools and if you're site was penalized, tell Google to remove your domain from the index. Then move your site's content to a new domain - KEYPOINT - that has NEVER been registered by anyone ever before. Check this in whois. Do not use a dropped domain. Then upload your content there, get the site indexed and start over with your good content on a fresh domain.
